Yep but I’m not sure how it changes now. I think we would probably sign him sooner than later and just keep him there.
Main takeaway was he confirmed Edvinsson, Johansson and Viro are coming to Michigan next year. Horcoff expects Johansson, Viro, Sebrango and McIssac to be in GR, so GR will be insanely young and Edvinsson will likely have to be bad or hurt in September to not make the Wings.
Pretty big news here. Will be curious to see how it impacts negotiations, as Brisson doesn’t fuck around.
I think he is a guy you can with as a #1 but I wouldn’t go above a 9 mil AAV. Even that would be a stretch based on Hertl’s recent extension. If he wants 9+ I think you might be looking at trading him.
Larkin is a top end second line C. Without any depth at the position he becomes a #1. Who are the top two C’s for Detroit? Larkin and Fabri? No real prospects ready to step in are there?
Larkin and then no one else. We will sign someone like Copp or Trocheck this Summer, but there is nothing in the system. Larkin has us by the balls in that sense, but I don’t think Yzerman will let himself get taken advantage of.
I mean...there aren't many things that can grab my interest like that preview did right there. Lawd. I can't wait for that.
Cossa and the Oil Kings steamrolled through Winnipeg to earn a spot in the WHL Finals. They should destroy whoever emerges from the other bracket which will give them a spot in the Memorial Cup. Cossa’s numbers took a hit this series but by all accounts Edmonton was giving up tons of odd man rushes. Regardless, seeing him play well in the Memorial Cup was my goal for him this season and he’s en route to having that opportunity.
Missed this last night, but Friedman is reporting Trotz did interview with Detroit. We are one of many, but the fact he sat down with Yzerman is a positive step.
Pronman did a ranking of the draft eligible players for this draft, with comparable NHL players for the top 32. The Wings have been bad for so long that I barely know who the NHL comparisons are.
My current read on the HC job is that the market is being held up by Trotz. I’m going to guess that Trotz is 1a and Lalonde or Halpern are 1b for us. So if Trotz wants to be here, the job is his. If not, we will be waiting until Tampa is done before any decision is made.
Friedman has us as still in on Trotz and Cassidy. I tend to think we would hire either guy over just about any other candidate so if either one decides to say yes to us, I think our search is over. I think Trotz ends up in Winnipeg but I could see Cassidy being down to us and Vegas. Vegas is better now but they have churned through coaches for having such a short history. That could push things in our favor.
Cossa rebounded nicely from the Winnipeg series, helping lead Edmonton to the WHL title last night with with a 2-0 victory. He finished the playoffs 19-3 with a 1.93 GAA and a .919 Save %. Next up for him is the Memorial Cup and then likely the August WJC where he will hopefully get the #1 gig back. After that he should head to GR but I do wonder if we might even look at overseas options for him as opposed to playing another year in the WHL.
Cassidy to Vegas is official and Tortorella and Philly are in the final stages of negotiations. That leaves: Winnipeg: Likely Trotz Dallas: Likely DeBoer Chicago: Likely King Boston: Likely Leach Lalonde from Tampa is likely the favorite at this point but who knows with Steve. Seems like we are still in on Trotz, just seems unlikely.
LeBrun reported last night that we have interest in Jeff Petry. This has been a theme with Petry since Yzerman got here. He was not good to start last season, but finished strong after the coaching change. In the years before that he was one of the best RHD in the league. The caveat is he’s 34 and his deal sucks. But if Montreal eats salary, or gives us a pick to take his contract, I’m all over a trade for him. He would be a great partner for Edvinsson, and he would give us insurance if we want to trade Hronek.
I think if they would have hired some Former NHL reject they would have done it already. Gotta think it’s Sergei at this point.
Finally getting around to watching Unrivaled. It’s unreal the hatred I still have for the Avs. It’s crazy that I can watch this and recognize every player on both teams and barely know that many people in the whole NHL these days. Getting old sucks and bring back the Wings being good also lol at Wojo’s column before the game
Agreed. I watched it last night and was enthralled with it. I'll probably watch it a second time soon. It brought back a lot of feels.
I got choked up at the Vladdy part. Anyone know what that limo driver is up to? Must have changed his name..
Solid hire, could be good/great. Yzerman is officially on the clock for me now. His coach, mostly his roster. Time to start winning games. I’m expecting an active off season. I think they run the risk of being stuck in the middle if they don’t get bold
Drafts since Yzerman have been here have been great, dead cap space almost all off roster now. Don't know this team is good next year but I'm expecting a pretty big step forward
Tampa is looking to deal Ryan McDonagh to a team of his choosing to clear cap space. With Yzerman and Lalonde here now I hope we can make that deal work. Would likely be a cheap move for us and he would be an amazing partner for Seider for a few more seasons.
