It’s not a coincidence. Successful sports programs cause increases in applications. We’re playing a lot more in those areas and applications are up.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/sports/ncaa-applicants/ It's because ohio state has been dominating the national conversation since 2012 along with bama and clemson. It's the CFP appearances and the wins. The fact that rutgers is in the b1g means jack shit. I'd also wager that college applications surging nationally is probably a bigger factor than beating maryland by 50 points a year.
Good point but anyone that’s lived in both knows Utah/Colorado winters are nothing like upper Midwest winters.
David Hale and Andrea Adelson are doing a live stream on twitter discussing what the ACC will potentially do. They mentioned the possibility of Oregon, Standford, Cal and Washington joining to be a coast-to-coast league, but that is a pipe dream at this point.
We played baseball out there like 20 years ago and our whole team almost died. Seriously the bus driver died of a heart attack on the highway.
Right, but in recent years neither program has done much, and they're going to a pretty weak wbb conference. Thus the needle remains dorment. hth
it’s about brands now not markets, prestige, or number of teams only UNC and ND have appeal to the B1G due to them having appeal to the Networks no one east of the Mountains cares about any of these schools in the PAC but USC/UCLA
Not until the ACC deal blows up. Cheaper to pick up the San Francisco market and a historical rival for ND, UCLA and USC. It also gives the California schools some closer home games in all sports.
I want it on the record that I find user Cornfed Buffalo to be a Saint and I will find room for him in the B1G if he murders @buff roughneck first. I won’t let him twist in the wind.
Got our money invested in Orange Juice futures. We know the money will be flowing like water, so why rush?
While I appreciate the kind words, CU needs to use this opportunity to admit that they have no desire to invest in what it would take to be competitive again. We are firmly #TEAMMWC but will also take calls from the Big Sky.
What am I missing? Fucking Texas wouldn't pay the GOR cost to leave even a year early for the SEC but you think a bunch of broke ACC schools are going to pay huge 9 figure sums to leave?
well the choices are 1. get enough people to leave so that the conference disbands and you dont have to pay the GOR 2. find the money 3. leave anyway and force the ACC into a huge court battle over the GOR 4. become permanently relegated to never contending for a title or significant bowl again. so fsu miami and clemson will be trying literally everything in their power to make 1,2 or 3 a reality.
I'd imagine Texas would've ponied up or pursued any other avenue they could if they were essentially facing relegation like ACC programs now are, pretty big difference in the sense of urgency between these two situations
It would be interesting to see who they pursue. The door was always closed to BYU (religion) and Boise State/other MWC members (academics). But I'd imagine they will have to lower their standards facing an existential crisis. I wonder if they call up BYU and how short that conversation is.
Thank you I definitely did not realize that. Like realignments have never been hijacked before. It's been a very successful run for TCU, Boise State, and San Diego State as Big East members.
They aren't going anywhere without us! -- Cal, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech -- Washington State, Oregon State
