I've been a lazy piece of shit when it comes to those (as evidenced by my lack of Strava postings), but the pool was calling today.
Forgot to ask, how you liking your Defy? My favorite LBS is a Giant dealer and every time I’m bike shopping I wind up getting a giant because of their value and availability (and my unwillingness to save up longer for more “fashionable” brands)
(Didn’t mean for that to sound like a knock it’s just that they’re the biggest maker in the world. I love all three of my Giants)
Really liking it! I got really lucky, was honestly looking for a new bike with just a carbon front fork and was about ready to pull the trigger.(~$1400) Found my defy on FB marketplace, its a 2018 and the guy hadn't rode it for 2 years, Had a Selle Anatomica seat on it, and Crank Brothers Petals. I ended up getting it for $1000.
I'm looking to get a new trail bike on a budget. I think I'm down to the Specialized Rockhopper Elite and a Canyon Stoic 2. I'm a big dude so I want an air fork and a 29er, but other than that I'm just looking for good bang for my buck. Does anybody have an opinion on those two? Or an opinion on something else I should look at?
Anybody ever sold a bike? I’m looking to upgrade my gravel bike. I’ve ridden 5k miles on the one I want to sell. Maintained it and replaced components as necessary. tips? Best practices?
Took a ride up to Hazard peak in Montana De Oro today with a buddy, enjoyed a beer at the top over looking Morro Bay. Good day.
Do you have a wheel-on or direct drive trainer? I really struggled getting into it with a wheel-on trainer, but I bought a Zwift Hub in December and it's completely changed the experience for me. Also got a balance board and having some sway while I ride seems to help as well.
Wheel on and my setup is so bad it's just crackhead engineered. I have a box fan on a stack of 5 boxes pointed at my face. Could be better.
Some damn good indoor trainer deals https://slickdeals.net/f/16489849-w...e&prop=rcmid-6f11ff0e57b7c2972d4fe0993c14e83b
Some people are great at bleeding and servicing hydro brakes. I’ve made an attempt but decided it’s the bike version of this tweet:
I bought a kit and am gonna give it a go. It would be such a wiser move to have the local shop do it but fuck it.
Talk to me about toddlers. Is a child seat on my bike or a trailer behind my bike the best bet? Pros? Cons?
That's what I think too. Best case the bike is top heavy and unstable. Worst case you wreck and you and your kid get hurt.
REI having a bike sale thru the 24th. Thinking of getting a commuter bike. Randy Dangus you still with REI? 30 percent off bikes their best sale of the year for bikes?
My wife took advantage of this sale to buy a hybrid to pull the toddler around in a cart. REI makes a very quality bike per $ spent. Big fan. Having service centers in every major city is a big plus.
bro looks like the wheels would be the weakest point of the bike but that’s not surprising. 40 mm tires would be real comfortable. 6061 aluminum and an all-Shimano drivetrain are a plus for a bike at that price. REI stands by its shit too which is nice and I’d take advantage of the free adjustments esp for the triple front derailleur which can get wonky as you stretch the cables gbr
bro timo is v correct. A guy can ride lower tire pressure and will have a smoother ride compared to skinnier tires. They can still roll relatively fast too. Anyway the best bike is the one you can’t wait to ride so if it fits your budget and your purposes get it and ride it like the wind and let us know when you upgrade!
My bike was sent to the REI for pick up 3 days ago. Still waiting on it to be assembled ahead of pick up. Have all my other gear. Can’t wait any longer!
Also I posted this in the Peloton thread earlier, but if you want some nice road shoes for cheap as hell, here you go. Use code SNEAKERS for another 30% off. Like $60 for some flexinit cycling shoes with Boa is absurd. The sole isn’t carbon fiber, so if you’re putting out like 1200 Watts in your local town line sprint, maybe they’ll flex too much for you. But otherwise… https://www.adidas.com/us/the-parley-road-shoe-boa/GX8931.html?forceSelSize=GX8931_710
nofatchildren Oh heeellll yeah. Dropper and everything! I didn’t ride one but looked hard when I bought my gravel bike this winter. I bet the low connection from seat stays to seat tube will make it a really compliant ride. I think Giant is awesome. I own a Giant full sus and fatbike and sold my beloved Giant TCX aluminum to get an upgrade. I wound up getting an Otso Waheela C. Just took it back home last weekend for my first grav ride and it performed excellently. Training for Gravel Worlds outside Lincoln in August. Unfortunately here in MPLS I’m at least an hour ride from any gravel :(
i just looked closer at the spec. Enjoy that etap! I was looking a step down or two from that model. curious about the flip chip. My Yukon fattie has one and I’ve never changed it, just leave it in the long position. The Waheela has one too and I’m enthused to swap it into the road setting after Worlds gbr
Got this bike the beginning of March. Gravel is such a game changer for me - did my first metric century on it a couple weeks ago.
