Any recommendations for books about the history of the American west? Looking for history of the plains tribes or decent books about Lewis and Clark

For the plains tribes, check out the works of historian Pekka Hamalainen. I haven't gotten around to reading his books but they've been well received by people whose opinions I trust.

Comanche empire is great but it’s pretty academic

Robert utley is a great historian and writer of 19th century west/native history
