Sterns going to be spotted at ComiCon and the internet will flip….. Only for Fiege’s big casting announcements to be Miles Teller as Dr Doom and Karl Urban as Wolverine in the summer blockbuster of 2024, X-Men: Mutant Genesis.
didn’t see it, but I’ll be honest I don’t hate that look but I’m not here to shit on you so I trust that it was absolutely not good
Never saw it either...wasn't Kate Mara Sue in the most recent one? Did they just go with her or Johnny being adopted?
I say fuck it, recast MBJ as Johnny and then cast Marvel's entire first family as black. Let's just light comic book Twitter on fire. All my favorite black actresses are already in comic book movies(a weird Z combination of 2 Zoes, Zendaya, and Zazie) so I'm gonna need some suggestions for Sue but the overall casting for this could be amazing.
is Stern a big MCU fan? also let's stop pretending that the guy from Nip/Tuck playing Doom wasn't a masterpiece.
Watched DS2 last night. Really leaned into the horror aspect, to the point of caricature, but it was a fun movie. My 9 year old viewing companion for all things Marvel and Star Wars thought it was a blast, which is good. Spoiler: criticism I thought they cut away from the temple crumbling down around Wanda, with the purple explosion inside, too quickly. That's a rough cut away from what appeared to be the end of a major and recently beloved character in the MCU, if it was meant to show that she is dead. Reminded me of Bane's death in TDKR.
When does the review embargo lift for Thor? Only one I’ve seen was a click bait title comparing it to Batman and Robin
My friend that saw it a week or two ago said it's extremely good - almost on Ragnarok level and he's a pretty critical dude when it comes to films.
Most tent poles* have a social media embargo lifted 2-3 weeks out, so nerds on Twitter can get us all hyped, and then the full review embargo lifted the week of release so the positive words and RT score gets people in theaters. Full Thor reviews should start coming out after the holiday. *Does not apply to Sony Marvel movies or DC movies, since they’re usually pieces of shit
This is going to end up having one of the worst RT scores in the MCU, which is not in any way what I was anticipating.
I'll trust a marvel actor's opinion over writers that rely on clicks for now. I think the film will be extremely solid. Could easily be wrong - but would be surprised in this instance.
I honestly think there is some Marvel fatigue going on which is leading to lower reviews. Plus everything is being compared to End Game and all that. I'm positive I'll really enjoy this movie though.
I can't even recall the last time Taika directed something I didn't like. The answer may be "never." There's a first time for everything, but it's possible I will walk away loving this movie despite what the critics say, just because I love the way TW makes films. Sort of similar to the Dr. Strange/Sam Raimi response, I think.
I agree with this. You see it a lot in the "Phase 4 is too disconnected" comments all over the internet, as though Phase 1 was a tightly connected world (it wasn't) or that Phase 2 was effortlessly sailing toward the confrontation with Ultron (nope), or even that Phase 3 was all about building to Infinity War (it wasn't). Comparing Phase 4 movies to Endgame is like comparing Better Call Saul season 1 to Breaking Bad season 4. It's very unfair for a variety of reasons. That doesn't mean there haven't been mediocre (Black Widow) or worse (Eternals) films this phase, but the problems are movie-specific, not related to the MCU as a whole, imo.
if I was going to be bold enough to criticize Feige I would say his biggest misstep with P4 has been not clearly introducing the next big bad yet and tying him into the stories as much as possible, even if just through a credit scene. everyone is just waiting for the next Thanos and without it, the stakes seem lower.
my dude, you should watch the finale of Loki, which not only laid down many of the ground rules of the multiverse, but also revealed the threat. It did more of what you're looking for than the post-credits scene of Avengers did to introduce Thanos. In fact, Loki's finale did more to set up the next big bad than the entirety of Phase 1 and 2 combined did to set up Infinity War in Phase 3.
people want to bitch to bitch. i know nothing of this movie but screw you if you don’t like it ya snob
It's legit - reviewers are just being idiots. I've now had multiple people tell me it's awesome that have actually seen it.
I put the word "clearly" in there for a reason. of course I've watched Loki. I've watched every piece of MCU content there is to watch. of course I have an idea of who the next big-bad is and think about how he ties into every movie. but everyone isn't like me and you. it's not clear to most people and they're not watching movies through that prism. I think a few end credit scenes could have gone a long way.
Everything gets graded on a curve and Taika blew the curve out of whack with Ragnarok. Is what I choose to believe. Considering Avengers, Shang-Chi and all 3 of the Holland Spider-Man movies have better RT scores than Civil War, Winter Soldier and Infinity War, whatever. Also BP and the original Ironman are ahead of Ragnarok on that list. If Love and Thunder is worse than Ironman 3, the first Thor and Age of Ultron, I'll be very suprised.
I might've come off assholey in that response; no insult intended. You make a fair point that they could have done more with the end credits to tease something. I might argue Dr. Strange did a lot of heavy lifting to set up incursions, but most casual people won't get the references until they look back after Secret Wars has happened.
