Atomix and Oxalis are the favs of those type of meals for me, but I’m not the biggest fine dining guy cause I’m a child
I’ve only been to Le Bernadin and EMP in the last 6-9 months, but I’m definitely in the minority of posters and reviewers in that I preferred EMP. Maybe it’s because I’m more open to vegan/veggie meals or maybe I just had a bad experience at Le Bernadin, but it was not what I expected. Thanks for the other recs. I will try them soon.
was in nyc last month. was just there for a little over a day and a half. went to a yankees game and mets game. yankee stadium is so corporate and bougie. its nice but has no character whatsoever. citi field was sick just didnt like how there wasnt a lot of stuff around it. easily the superior stadium despite their delusional fanbase ate lunch at souvlaki in manhattan and their greek pizza was incredible. walked around columbia and it is a gorgeous campus thanks for allowing me to share folks
Service was average. Our main server mumbled quietly in a thick accent and my older relatives couldn’t hear what she was saying. When they asked her to repeat some things, she was visibly unhappy. Food was good but nothing stood out. We had some pretty great wines in the pairings. The ambiance felt like I was in 2005. Maybe my expectations were too high. Had a much better experience at EMP with the vegan menu.
LB was the best service I’ve ever had by far. Felt like we had 50 servers who were always available but never annoying.
Current bros, there was a Dominican restaurant on the corner in Washington heights, and it's been some time. Arroz con pollo for like $8. There was some parks and schools to the east/ne,directly across the street, around 150s. That was legitimately the absolutely best restaurant in nyc during my time. I get the status and experience thing, I do. But it's been years and I've never had a better meal than that place. It's probably not there anymore or changed, but having had both (pretending to enjoy places like le Bernardin), I'd say that place was the best restaurant in nyc and worth the trip to a neighborhood most travelers would be nervous of for no reason
it’s not Dominican (it’s Puerto Rican), and not Wash Heights (it’s Bronx), but your post reminded me that I’ve been meaning to bring up this place La Piranha for the thread and see if anyone had been. this review makes it sound godly https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/21/dining/la-pirana-lechonera-review-pete-wells.html
Gonna be in town this weekend and trying to decide how dumb it is for me to be a little intrigued at the thought of biking from FiDi out to Fort Tilden...
I'll have time kill Saturday Noon to 5pm. My plan was to walk soho/little italy/china town and see what I get into.... Is there any tourist trap type stuff worth the time? Summit one vanderbilt or color factory?
Went to Nami Nori in Williamsburg last night. Really liked it and service was awesome. Pretty limited beverage menu (outside of sake) which is a bummer but nonetheless, real good.
I went to an Olmsted pop-up last summer at rock center overlooking St Pat’s. Food was really good. Enjoy
I got absolutely after it imo, had a great trip. I wrote that itinerary and managed to follow it. Saturday- John's of Bleecker Street Garret Bar (enter through 5 guys burgers) walk to chinatown: Mei lah wah pork buns Super taste pork dumplings -back to hotel BondSt Sushi (reso) Book of Mormon (8pm) bars: Death & Co. Please Don't Tell (12am reso) House of Yes Brooklyn (1:30am) Sunday: Kazunori hand roll Summit One attraction Renew Day Spa china town (massage $50) SakiMai (uni Mazeman dish) walk around east village -back to hotel.. Llama San (9pm reso) Raines Law Room Chelsea Employees Only Home sweet home bar Monday: Museum of illusions (10 am) Sushi 35 West (online order) to JFK (3pm)
It was too short notice for most of those places reservation wise, but I did enjoy Llama San. Thanks. I thought Bondst sushi was overrated. Kazunori hand rolls were probably the best meal of the trip, but sushi west 35 was also amazing. Pick up only: https://www.sushi35west.com/
I tried Katana Kitten, with all its hype. The service was excellent, so good for them - but felt fairly meh about everything else.
Those highballs are... fine lol I wanted to like that not-negroni, but it didn't do much for me. Things seem kinda bland/sweet...
yes, it’s a fun / wild night. i’ve been a few times, and the experience varied considerably based on the acts that were performing.
Nah, it’s just like a high end night club with a stage at front. Mostly table reservations with bottles, but also a GA section for a select few. Pretty sure the show is the same for everyone. I’m not an expert though - just been several times. I also haven’t been since well before pandemic. Maybe things have changed.
Emilios Batallo is a hot spot right now. Been around for a long time. I would put yourself on the notifications for openings if you really want to hit Carbone. People cancel all the time.
Was back in city yesterday and today. Highly recommend Antoya Korean BBQ. Also, holy shit the new Delta Lounge at LGA is ridiculous.
Hey nyc bros. Heading into the city for few I hrs at end of October for 10th wedding anniversary. We got married weekend of hurricane sandy andour honey moon was canceled so we stayed at the the Waldorf which was pretty awesome. my wife was set on going to polo bar for dinner but haven’t been able to get a reservation yet. Any places with similar vibes? we are staying at the ludlow hotel this time.
Overpriced midtown bistro food is not in short supply. Just go to Balthazar or Frenchette downtown for better food and great vibes
