Except they’re all inevitably moving to streaming too. It’s been a helluva bubble watching these deals continue to skyrocket as the networks can’t find ways to monetize them enough. NBC buying out the US Open rights for pennies on the dollar from Fox and then tripling the ad load was galaxy brain stuff. And wonderful for fans!
Just wait till you are in the B1G and you play a big noon game that last 4.5 hours due to commercials
What did 30 second ads go for during the SEC CBS games last year? Is there a place to find that info?
Phew. Was gonna say, Corky doesn't seem like the type to line his bank account with the blood of the LGBT community
Sure but having the streaming rights is also worth a lot as live sports are one of the few things that still get massive ratings.
some psu insider says 550/yr for nbc deal, b1g may hit 1.5bil/yr in media rights, that number would even lap the sec
People keep saying this but espns real competition has now blown their wad. Is espn really scared of streaming services knowing that big 12 pac really dont want to go that way.
After watching what has happened in this sport over the last 30 years of realignment, how could any college football fan view capitalism as a positive force?
I think we didn’t know how good we had it with thr BCS. Pre-BCS era was hyper-regional and it was sub-optimal to have multiple national champions. BCS era made CFB a national brand, respected the competition within 6 regional major conferences even as the SEC pulled away, and preserved the traditional post-season opportunities outside the top2. And most of all the regular season upsets within a conference that could cost a top 2ish team a shot at the title made the regular season must-watch. Playoff era stinks.
Having to funnel every narrative through the CFP has been a real negative. If you go 11-2, win your conference, and go to a NY6 bowl it's no longer an accomplishment.
Yeah that plus its been a weird coincidence of the 3 best situated programs being at a peak in uga, osu, and alabama. Those programs have everything, history, local recruiting, resources, huge fan bases, all in attitude etc. In the past when there were dominant programs, they had things holding them back a bit(fsu and miami with resources, nebraska location, nd academics and lack of all in attitude etc.).
This was the key bit in that article Could the new media rights deal and relationship with NBC convince Notre Dame to make a move? The Big Ten would surely act quickly if that became a possibility. These potential decisions did not need to be made and locked in before the Big Ten signs this deal. Multiple people involved in the process told The Athletic that they expect the league’s contracts to include triggers that would either allow for renegotiation in the event of conference membership addition or incrementally and automatically adjust the payouts in such an event.
FOX B1G NUDE: Ohio State vs Michigan CBS 3:30: Wisconsin vs Penn State NBC Primetime: Notre Dame vs USC B1G After Dark: Oregon vs Washington
It will be MSU/PSU Wisky/Minny article also said they wanted 2 other B1G teams to play Black Friday. Wisky/Minny followed by Iowa / Nebraska would be pretty sweet
whenever the athletic publishes something keep in mind you’re basically reading whatever the conference their source is in wants out there. which means that’s probably all happening
BCS sucked. Playoffs currently suck because they’re a crappy half-measure. Either you go all-in on a suitable playoff like every other sport or every other division of this sport or you go all-in on embracing the bowl system like CFB did pre-BCS. BCS was garbage and the four-team playoff ain’t much better.
