Lee, Nutzy, Minty, Yatesy, Iggy and Fat Kenley ain’t half bad especially in the playoffs when your starter might only go through a lineup 2ish times.
I'd give Grissom the call. He hasn't played but a few games at 2B, but he's by far the best middle IF option in the upper part of our system. AAA is full of retreads and Shewmake, who is currently injured. If he can hit even decently, you could even use Ozzie a bit at DH, when he returns, to take some workload off his foot, and ABs away from Ozuna.
Maybe Motter but it almost has to be somebody that you feel like can play reasonably well for the next month. Idk if that guy exists for us.
Is he even healthy yet? And don’t they have to be in your organization to be playoff roster eligible?
I think you just have to get them signed by September. He’s supposed to be hitting by early September
i’m fine with it as long as we murder ozuna. i have a very firm and non negotiable “only one pathetic excuse of a person on your team at one time” policy
I really don’t know that you can float 2nd with Adrianza/AAAA player/shit ass FA that was just signed until Oz is back for another 3-4 weeks. If you believe Grissom is close and can play second then he’s gotta be the guy.
The media keep denying this but Loubias is confirming it as true. We also just received word that Grissom is being called up.
Shewmake had a collision with Demeritte the other day and it was pretty bad apparently. He couldn't stand up and had to get carried off the field. Looked like it could be a head and/or physical injury. Hope he's ok. Demeritte finished the game, so I think he's OK, but he did stay down after the collision. (I got this info via the Road to Atlanta podcast on the Battery Power podcast feed fwiw). ETA: When the Braves first acquired Demeritte he was a 2B and apparently very good defensively. Wouldn't mind if the Gwinnett Braves trotted him out there for a bit to see if he could still play the position. His 0-fer slump was awful, but if he can play the position, he's probably not much worse anyone else we could trot out there. That said, if they're willing to try out Grissom at 2B this season, I'm all for it. The downside is that he apparently needs some work defensively, so moving him off SS might be problematic for his development, but I'd trust the organization on that call one way or the other. If the Braves didn’t like either of these 2 options, or anyone they could get from waivers/FA, I think Cody Milligan would be the guy. Cody was a college draftee and is plays (sometimes) 2B for Mississippi — no power, but per the pod, gives good ABs.
Braves Twitter guys are saying Grissom isn't great defensively so the only value he could have is with the bat. We signed Motter last week. Probably him.
just watched the condensed version and chip saying “arcia flying into second” as he is hopping with a ripped up hammy was truly remarkable stuff even for him
gotta go bold here and give maximus some run at 2nd. we know he can handle the stick at a silver slugger level.
Was just looking at some data points on career WAR plotted against number of milb ABs and getting under to right at 1,000 as opposed to 1,000 to 1,500 wasn’t a huge predictor in future success. In fact, the ceiling of the under 1,000 ABs was much higher in career WAR which stands to reason as a huge talent would be potentially fast tracked. What I’m saying is Marquis’ kid and Harris are already HOFers.
