My favorite post of the year so far was Gaknight posting this gem in the MLB thread a few days ago about Met fan homerism without an ounce of self awareness regarding his NBA thread posting.
Imagine thinking I'm actually reading a bunch into a preseason game and not fucking around in the middle of the work day
Hawks fans seem to be leaning into their homerism in an attempt to seem tongue in cheek and give themselves plausible deniability
I'm convinced if you woke up in a room with no windows or doors and no concept of date or time you could accurately create a calendar down to the week based on tmb hawks fans posting. The cycle never fails.
Gaknight is smug as fuck that they're up to homecourt in the play-in. Must be March. Gaknight says he's not going to watch any more this season. Must be December.
I really leaned into it with all the Trae hate. Multiple threads and engagement from fans of teams that weren’t Dallas were like PEDs for me. I wanted Luka at the time but I love my guy if anything I should be listened to for saying Luka and JJJ were the best 2 in that draft at the time. ITS QUIET AS FUCK IN HERE
It's cliché at this point but he seems to be a legitimate 2K Create-A-Player come to life, 7'4" and Curry range
Speaking of Poku, Presti has had some bad drafts since he got Roberson. Other than Dort who he didn’t draft, he’s whiffed on a bunch
Well we were drafting pretty low for a lot of that time. Tough to roast a guy for not picking winners at like pick 26. I do mourn Terrence Ferguson and Mitch McGary not working out though
1. Lebron 2. Wembayana 3. Oden 4. Wiggins 5. Zion i would guess Iverson, Duncan, Yao, Durant, Rose, and maybe AD are also top 5 contenders, but I was a little too young to remember the guys in the 90s and think the hype around the top 5 i chose was superior to the later guys.
Lebron Wembayana Kobe Garnett Kenny Anderson Damon Bailey Felipe Lopez Pat Ewing Jason Kidd Greg Oden
In a league with Lebron, KD, and Giannis; it’s absolutely wild that there can be a new unicorn amongst them
David Robinson should only be excluded from these lists if you're including his expected military service
Scoot would be the first pick in how many of the last 10 drafts? Pretty amazing that teams that tank but don’t get number 1 will get a really good consolation prize
since ‘80 the “generational” guys everyone planned a year beforehand were: Sampson Akeem Ewing Robinson Shaq Duncan LeBron Oden (but KD had made debatable by draft time) Zion
I don't remember (or guys were just before my time) some of the hype in terms of this far before the draft people talking about a prospect in this way. I'm guessing that's an extremely small list that only includes maybe Oden, LeBron and a few others. But if we're just talking about guys who it was clear were considered "holy shit" guys and true prizes as potential #1 picks that you'd sell your soul to get, Anthony Davis is on that list. To maybe a slightly lesser extent, Wall and KAT were talked about that way, too.
I remember the year that Derrick Rose went #1 that several draft guys on the internet were saying Wall was going to be a clear step above him as a prospect in the following draft. I don't remember if that was still the sentiment by the time his draft rolled around, but Wall was the clear #1 guy before he got to UK.
Not a huge stretch for a guy that went #2 overall, but I felt like Durant was a lock to be an all timer after watching his freshman year at UT. He seemed otherworldly
anyone in here subscribe to slam magazine still? that's basically how I am judging hype of draft prospects; if i remember specific covers from slam (or SI/ESPN)
KAT was absolutely not talked about like that, he was a elite defensive prospect with raw/limited offense to start and everybody got it wrong
