I let King out to take a leak and heard a bark.King doesn't bark (like ever) so I knew something was wrong. 2 coyotes were out there and the 3 of them were just staring at each other. I threw a plastic jack-o'-lantern at them and they ran off. Apparently one of those fuckers bit him. I found a very small scab 2 days later. He's a pit boxer but has zero fight in him. He just wants to be fwends. Anyways I need to figure out how to deal with these assholes going forward. Prob a couple trail cams.
Just found out she's going to die soon... her adopters were former Pixel fosters and they have regularly sent me pictures since they adopted her 18 months ago. She went through so much, and even when she bit their dog twice because of her past trauma, they didn't give up and return her like so many others would have. Friday they messaged me saying they had taken her to the emergency vet because she was lethargic, throwing up, and her belly was hard. Turns out she has massive tumors everywhere, absolutely riddled with cancer. They are going to spoil her until she tells them it's time to go. I'm hoping to get to see her before it's time. Fuck cancer.

Thanks dude, in her original post someone suggested she take him to a rescue and she said she wanted to handle it herself. she's looking for someone to adopt the pup directly.
Our pup is just 8 and I fear is about to have her 3rd medical journey. Overcame a kidney disease just since 2020. Overcame ITP (immune system disease likely caused by the kidney treatments) and today got a high calcium blood result which could be cancerous. Feel so bad for her but this could be another hard road. Just sucks. Edit: vet felt a growth in anal glands. Blah.
This is the rescue where my wife volunteers and where we’ve gotten a couple of our dogs. For you German shepherd fans. https://instagram.com/stories/prove...ource=ig_story_item_share&igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Thinking of getting a dog for my wife around Xmas. I’ve never done this myself before. In general, when rescuing, can you see and start to adopt the dog, but perhaps come back a few days later to get the dog? Or do you normally leave with the dog that day?
Flash was attacked today by some Belgium. Luckily she is okay but idk what to do. The guy paid for the vet visit and she is 100% okay. I kinda feel that should be it but some are saying I should attempt to get some legal action. I’m just glad she is fine and wasn’t hurt at all.
Why would you take legal action if she is fine and he paid for the vet care? You don’t have any damages.
that’s why I said I think it should be done. But, honestly I’m kinda pissed that my dog was attacked because some asshole couldn’t control his dogs so I’m venting. legal action not go to a lawyer necessarily but more so go to the cops to report the attack
I edited my post to mention the legal actions were more about going to the cops to report the attack than to call a lawyer.
Haven’t had a dog since my childhood dog, had some rent issues then just haven’t pulled the trigger. Sister had me take care of her dog for 6 months as she had her house renovated with many issues and they took her back today and now sad. Think time to pull trigger, wanna get some other animals too. Maybe turtles but currently high af
yeah you and bro are right but like I said I was venting. Flash is literally the sweetest dog I’ve ever owned. She just minds her own business and lives in her own little world. She didn’t growl move towards them or anything and one got close and lunged luckily it wasn’t able to get a clean hold of her. I was stupid and stuck my hand in the dogs mouth to have it let go. Maybe stupid isn’t the right word because hopefully I saved her from getting too hurt.
With most rescues, If you haven't already applied and been approved, you'll almost never take the dog home the same day. In the case of ours, you put in an app, they check with your landlord (if applicable), with your vet to make sure any existing animals in the home are well cared for, and then do a home visit (typically over Zoom) before you are approved. most rescues will let you apply ahead of time and be pre-approved, if that is the case and then you go to an event and meet the dog you want, then you might be able to take the dog home the same day. Otherwise it will probably be a few days at least between applying and getting approved and then being able to get the dog.
I certainly won't speak ill of rescues but something to consider is that some of them can be *really* picky. When we were trying to adopt a few years ago we had gotten pretty far along with a corgi rescue and had a 4-year old pup we were really interested in. They approved our initial app and were planning an in-home and then I guess realized we lived on the 4th floor of a building with a balcony and completely cut us off without even doing the visit because they had adopted a dog out to someone who ended up having it fall from a balcony. I thought that was pretty shitty to write us off just because of that.
From my experience animal shelters are pretty easy to adopt from. IDK if there is a reason not to adopt from them but it’s a good option unless there is something I don’t know about.
you will want to leave with the dog that day also, dogs are horrible "surprise" gifts for adults. make sure your wife is on board everything. this will completely change your life.
Some good replies to this post, would just add that if there’s some time between when you take custody of the dog and when you want to bring the dog home there are boarding schools for pups where they assess the dog’s needs, get them in a routine and train them to follow some basic commands or at least make sure they are housebroken. Haven’t used one before but if I had the cash to spend on it, would def consider. Of our two dogs, one was quite easy to integrate into our daily routine, but our girl was a nightmare. She had been at an institution for a few months and shuttled from foster to foster before we got her. When we first got her she would be up all hours of the night and used the kitchen as her personal toilet. Not a fun time and would have been nice to avoid.
Not sure if you saw, but something awful happened in this story. The dog was set to go to his forever home and a couple of hours before he was supposed to go, he was run over and killed. Just so awful.
Ted’s chilling on the bed while I’m working at my desk. The dude farts, sniffs at it, licks at the air, the lays back down. Pretty envious of that life at times.
