As a Mercedes-Benz owner (W212), I actually do like their styling. But to act like most BMWs aren't more attractive (historically, except you Bangle, only your 7 series was decent) is revisionist history. Look at a 70s 3.0 CS. Beautiful car. Then look what an MB from that era looked like. Nope. Also, Alfas are badass. If we had a good shop in town I'd buy an older one and wrench on it. At this point, we don't, so I wouldn't be comfortable with much other than a Spider. Just too many unobtainium or ridiculously expensive parts when it breaks. And it will break.
Bangle says hello. Hardcore fans have always been this way. Go read Rennlist when a new 911 is released.
Not surprised to see Toyota and Lexus as 1 and 2...but BMW #3? Wow. https://www.consumerreports.org/car...who-makes-the-most-reliable-cars-a7824554938/
When we had our third kid we couldn’t fit the car seats across the second row of the explorer so we moved up to a Wagoneer. Had it for three months now and love it. Power is great, ride is unbelievable and the interior and features shit on a Tahoe. Not the prettiest car but it’s growing on me. Also dealers will deal with them. I got $5k off sticker and 0% financing for 72 months.
Agree. I had an e90 and I loved that car. E46 is my favorite 3 of all time. E39 is my overall favorite. Hot take but I love the new grills when on the G80 & G82.
You can have this dreamy car for $75K. Electric E series. I'm a Benz fan boy, but their EVs are ugly AF to me. BMW i4 M50 looks better even with the dumb grill.
I don’t think it’s out yet, is it? Reviews aren’t great. Curious to see how the AMG version looks when it comes out next year.
Agreed, the reviews aren't great. If the AMG EQS is any indication (below), the AMG EQE won't be much better looking. Is there any style at all in these designs? Look like aero blobs to me. Also don't get why EV wheels are so ugly - how are these AMG wheels?
I'm fine with the interior, I just find the exterior styling non-existent. Subjective, of course, but I don't think M-B has maintained it's signature look in EVs like BMW has. Seems like they had a single-minded focus on drag coefficient.
Trading in my 2015 Wrangler and buying a 2021 F150 Powerboost in the morning unless for some reason I wake up and someone on TMB talks me out of it
I help my Dad plenty. He farms around a thousand acres and has a few hundred cows so there’s a variety of instances over the past few years that have been a headache with my Jeep. This isn’t a work pickup by any means but helps alleviate some of those issues. I like to take my jetski up to the lake. I’m a nurse so having something with 4-wheel drive to get to work at 6:00 AM before the snow gets cleared is pretty important. (Granted that’s only a couple months of the year but there’s few things more aggravating at the hospital than when I have an unsafe nurse:patient ratio at work because someone else can’t get to work in the snow. “Roads are bad” is a good excuse to not travel for some jobs, not when people are sick in a hospital) It’s cool so far. There’s a hybrid coach on the dash and if you don’t have a lead foot you can drive through town on battery power a lot of the time. Doesn’t have blue cruise but the lane centering and adaptive cruise control make highway driving less stressful.
Not a car guy but have done a fair amount of research and Mazda seems to be a great "bang for your buck" Looking at the CX-30 and need AWD. Looks like in the new 2023s you have to go Carbon Edition (hate the red interior) or above to premium ($35k) for AWD. But I could get a lightly used 2020 or 2021 CX-30 select with AWD for $25k-ish. Again I know little about cars so any help is appreciated or positive / negative Mazda vibes.
I haven't driven one, but Car and Driver loves the CX-30, whether it's the 2021 or a 2023. 2021 was their Editors Choice for subcompact SUV. Here's their review of the 2021: https://www.caranddriver.com/mazda/cx-30-2021 And 2023: https://www.caranddriver.com/mazda/cx-30 Car and Driver isn't great for reliability, more suited for driver experience. They are big Mazda fans. Red interior would be tough to endure for me, too.
Is Mazda good / known for reliability? maintenance costs? Thanks in advance. I can tell you after doing extensive searches they hold their value. Some of the select models are 2-3 years old and only $2k - $3k less than new
I know when we were searching for used cars a few years ago, Mazda was always one of the top choices by Consumer Reports. Wife ended up with a 2016 CX-5, has done us well for the past few years. Doesn't have any punch, but that's not what we got it for.
Obligatory "I don't know your situation Aurelius but you probably just need snow tires not AWD" I know you didn't ask, but Marcus A. would want me to say that.
Mazda in the last 12 years has risen to be the single most reliable brand on the market (arguably in a tie for first with toyota/lexus). Their skyactiv engines are extremely reliable. They also make cars with fun driving dynamics and interiors far better than the price point would suggest. The main downside is that they don't get great fuel economy and the dealership experience tends to suck. Take with a grain of salt as i am the board's resident mazda shill.
I'd sacrifice something very close to me to have a Mazda 6 with a stick. But there's not even a Mazda 6 anymore. I love the 3 hatch, but my kids are all tall so that doesn't work. Grr.
My wife has a 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring she bought new. It has 90,000 miles and only has needed brakes and tires. Can't recommend enough.
Newer BMW inline-6's are fucking bulletproof man. It's very telling that Toyota, the brand that prides itself solely on reliability, is using the BMW B58 engine for their cars.
Anyone have stats on the current car market? Been looking and watching a lot of things starting to get reduced pricing and a lot of barely used inventory for '22. A few dealerships offering below MSPR for '23. Seems to be a little loosening for non-EVs and possibly the used market too. Wondering if it is trending down waiting 60-90 days might be better than buying before Christmas.
My current anecdotal stat is that the dealership calls me weekly to try and get me to trade my truck in. Annoying af.
pperc Your patience And understanding is exemplary. My ability to apologize underserved us both. I thank you for your kindness and am grateful for your humanity. I hope you kill it in your car search because those future plush seats deserve your cozy little farts, my man. I can't wait to see what you choose. Your possibilities are endless. That's exciting
That said, get a cx-5. Sounds like you want a vehicle that drives and has stuff. It has the style and capabilities of cars that cost twice as much with half the problems. It fits in anywhere. Why impress people who are impressed by bullshit? Give it a drive
Looking for a mid sized SUV that’s got good tech and is reliable. Don’t really care too too much about being fun to drive but I guess it wouldn’t hurt either. Was considering the Genesis GV80 but feel like they’ve got questions about long term reliability. Help computer. edit: teetering between 2 rows and a small 3 row as well
