Possession without purpose is every manager who wants to emulate Pep with zero thought on how to do it and score
I’m not a Gregg lover but I’m also not close to his biggest hater, but he got completely outclassed today. to be fair, there are very few international managers better than LvG but the difference was glaring today.
Some good hurt for a young team that will make them better. But over half this roster should turnover.
CP nails that chance, it’s a different outcome. Tyler/Serge don’t fall asleep, it’s a different outcome. It really really sucks, but these kids will learn, they’ve always rose up since the U-16 days. 26 will be a different story. Proud of this crew.
also I know we all talk about finding a 9, but really need to find a CB pair as well. obviously Richards is the obvious choice right now but there’s nobody else close. I’m sure we have guys coming through but they’ll have to develop.
Agreed. Our top end 12/13 are really, really good and we squeezed out all of them but one that we could. After that it isn’t a small drop off, it’s a cliff to the next group.
I think you have to roll more or less with your best XI - only the French and Brazilians put themselves in a position to rotate (and they both lost). But there’s got to be someone behind them who can give them a spell. Aaronson was disappointing these two weeks in that regard, he’ll be better.
Like I said in another post, the way we were attacking when we were desperate for goals is far better than whatever shit we normally do. Throw the ball into dangerous areas and get on the end of it. That's how the fucking game works. That's what the Dutch did
The USMNT vets will appreciate this, I watched the game with John O’Brien’s brother and he was wearing one of his US jerseys.
Totally misread, whoops. These won’t be. Ream, Roldan, Morris, Yedlin, Sean Johnson, Long, Moore, and Acosta are most likely. 4 years is a long time though for injuries and others developing so it’s a crap shoot
Let’s see how Robinson looks after his injury because Richards probably shouldn’t be in the current top 2 if everyone was healthy
their strategy was literally to let us over extend ourselves trying to creat half chances and then drill us on the counter if you think the Dutch did anything other than control the game exactly how they wanted then you weren’t paying attention
Turner, Dest, Jedi, Scally, CCV, Adams, Musah, McKennie, Aaronson, LdlT, Reyna, Pulisic, Weah, Morris
I'm pretty disappointed but not that we didn't advance. I expected we would lose today, think most would agree. However the most frustrating thing is watching us have a ton of opportunities only to squander them in silly ways. Then we have guys forgetting to mark their man which isnt like Adams and Jedi, Dest was just lazy and flat footed. Feels like we should have been able to pull the upset. Oh well. My WC22 expectations were met. Lastly though is this team is very young. In 4 years we have everyone back. We have 4 years to find a 9. If we can find that 9 we can be very competitive internationally for years to come. I'm not a GGG fan but it is what it is and he probably isn't going anywhere. But I am a USMNT fan no matter what and honestly I'm very excited about the future of this team if our expected growth continues to happen.
Agreed, but our team requires so much out of the midfield since we don’t have a great 9. Those dudes give everything in every game, and McKennie wasn’t match fit coming in.
Not only Chris but remember Miles and Zim were the duo before Miles blew his Achilles on that shit ass Atlanta turf. It doesn’t change anything this tourney because Ream was great but the future is those 2 guys.
Hopefully, just included him because of age. Idk if we change set ups between now and then but it seems like we have a billion promising attacking midfield types, very few guys who can replace what Wes and Musah do, and like nothing behind Adams. really sucks that Venezia is ruining Busio
Morris, Yedlin, and Gio having the same number of appearances over the 4 games will bother me for a long time.
Just like 95% of the teams we’ve played the last 2 years. Tyler has shut that shit down time and time again. He didn’t today. It sucks but it happened. He won’t let that happen in 4 years.
he’s fine. he’s just an example of another guy on the bench without the ability to really change anything. too many of those guys this year.
I’m not really upset at all This is what I expected out of this WC. Making it to QF seemed absolute best case dream scenario with Argentina looming.
As somebody that went from not watching any soccer outside every 4 years to somebody that truly loves the sport (thanks to MLS of all places!)…I want to fight every chud in my fantasy football groups today that are giving their super LOUD opinions about the game. I’ve also come to the conclusion those people have the American superiority complex and are the ones who popularized the ‘back-to-back world champs’ shirts.
This is the part that’s sobering. We are so much less than sum of our parts in the final third. And there is zero reason to expect any different under Berhalter. Though I do expect him to get another contract, unfortunately. Also, good job, great job, fantastic job not bringing Pepi. At least we now know the three guys we absolutely can’t bring to 2026. That being said, the Dutch are much better and it’s obviously not realistic to expect a quarterfinal until you’ve proven you can consistently get there. So be it. We got taught a lesson today. You just hope these guys absorb today and what level they have to be at to scratch the surface of making a quarter because today was far far short of it.
yea I know I was so upset when he got hurt, but that’s a major injury and he’ll be 29. so much of his game is athleticism. if he can get back to the same form, lock him in but I don’t think it’s guaranteed.
Man, Haji really screwed the pooch this tourney. Really want a behind the scenes tell all about the #9 selections. Pepi/Vazquez are so damn good. Why weren’t they here?
