Idk I just keep seeing Liberals hand-waive Desantis away, but I’ve yet to speak to a single Republican that has any type of negative opinion of Desantis. In fact most of them go out of their way to say something positive about him. Saying he has no appeal outside of the South is just factually incorrect. As long as he keeps hurting the right people, he, and his actions, will be popular among republicans nationally. Meant to say among Republicans.
Desantis' problem won't be that he's not hurting enough people for republicans to like him. It's that he has an uncharismatic loser personality that won't be great when the rest of the country sees him actually speak and will get eviscerated by Trump at pretty much every turn, if it comes to it.
He's going to win the GOP primary because of course they are all ghouls and most of them are ready to kick Trump to the side anyways. But he comes off like a massive little prick and it's easy to see how he will have a hard time attracting moderates in other states.
i admittedly haven't followed much RW messaging the past few months but it seemed like most of the big names were ready to toss him aside for Desantis after the poor midterms.
They can do that but it didn't stop Trump the first time around. He's a cult leader and that shit doesn't just go away. He won in 2016 despite those same people hating him, probably even more then.
DeSantis is good, in GOP eyes, when he's ranting at media and has pre-scripted go after "woke" events. He has zero ability to think on his feet. His entire political career was sucking up to Trump and then going head into "culture war." Trump will eviscerate him in a debate. Watch him when he has to actual questions and can't rely on media allowing him to rant at them or when he bans media that doesn't suck up him. He falls apart and just goes back to a few specific culture war/Covid points. This is Trump's dream to be on the stage going after him.
DeSantis will get abused by Trump if he does debates with him. I also don't see any way he can win a general election if he were to defeat Trump
Trump will run as an independent or Trumpers will write him in on ballots. Either way Desantis would be screwed.
My perspective as an LGBTQ person in Florida is probably warping how I see it as he’s currently the biggest threat to my day-to-day existence. Just hard to see people keep saying he’s unpopular/not a threat when everything he does is celebrated by the most dangerous half of the country

Trump can just call all the GOP talking heads who support Desantis RINOs and their biggest fans will take a moment to think about it. Then trump will reiterate and they will all be like damn it must be true, and their party will be more divided

People dismissing trumps prospects to meatball Ron’s benefit because the establishment wants it to happen seem to be forgetting the last eight years of life. The establishment wanting trump to go away is the cause of and exactly why trump exists politically.
Biden is so much more personable and likable than Meatball Ron. Add in the actual policies that both support, and I personally do not see Meatball Ron beating Biden in debates or the election.
My hope is that the distillation of hate and fear and control that Desantis represents only works for GOP voters and the wider voting constituency sees him for what he is.
I was at a neighborhood party and listened to my Nepalese neighbor rant for 15 minutes about how Desantis will be the next President and how the economy is going to take off under his leadership and China is going to shit their pants because they'll be so scared of him. I asked him to name one specific thing Desantis has said to make that happen or is he just projecting Fox News talking points on to him. All I got was "ohhh he'll make it happen" and then he walked off. That is the Desantis voter.
I fear that there’s like 15% of the entire voting populace that will just throw behind Meatball Ron purely on the fact he isn’t old and gray.
Whenever I think of a Biden-Meatball Ron matchup, I can’t help but think it will end up like this, but on a national scale: Charisma is a major component of politics, especially presidential politics. Meatball Ron has very little charisma.
How well Desantis appeals to people in Pa and Michigan is all that matters I worry how he will appeal to Cobb county and north Fulton white folks. It’s probably better for Dems that he pulls more ghoulish stunts for points
