There's one Mom who every morning is breastfeeding her kid on the main entrance bench. The other day as I'm driving away from school she's walking out and mid walk pops her titty out and starts feeding her son without skipping a beat.

Lost my Dad two years ago today on 14 days notice. Today I allowed myself to go back and listen to the voicemails stored in my phone. I miss him so much. I think what makes me the saddest is he never got to meet his grandson, and the three of us never got to be together. Heavy heart fellas, grief is a bear, and parenthood is a privilege.

It will be fine. The procedure takes like 15 seconds. They spend more time verifying the accuracy of everything than the actual procedure. My oldest 2 each got them at 1 year of age and it made life so much better.

I feel ya. Mine passed away in 2020. It pains me that he doesn’t get to see his grandson playing sports and that my 4 year old daughter, who adored him at age 2, doesn’t even remember him.

Yeah he’s fine. A little groggy but nothing bad. On a side note, when we were in the waiting room while he was having the procedure another dr came out and had to tell the woman sitting by us that her son had a seizure or basically like a seizure due to the anesthesia and they had to remove the tube from his throat because the muscles were seizing up around it. He said it wasn’t a big deal and it happens from time to time and that he’s perfectly fine but my heart dropped into my stomach.

That sounds terrible. The anesthesia is the worst part of getting eat tubes. Ours tended to be pretty cranky and needy afterward but they bounce back quickly.

Grandparent dying sucks (obvi). My dad died a year ago from covid. He was delayed meeting my son b/c of covid & flying was too big of a risk. I think one or two trips were canceled during big case increases.

He did get to come down & we have some good pictures of them together hanging up in my house. My wife's dad died when she was ~10, so my son doesn't have any grandfathers. He's clearly learning about it in daycare b/c when talking about "Grandma" and "Nani" he also asks about Paw Paw or Pop Pop or Grandpa. Breaks my heart a little bit (and makes make hate anti-vaxers even more).

My dad was a big fisherman and already bought my son a fishing pole for christmas a month before he got sick. So just kills me thinking he'll miss out on those and really any memories

I always get super sad. My FIL passed away unexpectedly, 2 months before our daughter was born.

He was absolutely outstanding with his other grandchildren, was so super excited for him and her to meet. The other kids are 8 hours away, so they would have had a special bond.

Sucks. Dunno which is worse, never getting to meet, or meeting then losing. Would assume the latter.

Touchy topic. My dad was diagnosed with a rare cancer a little less than a year ago and already is left with just trials as an option unless a miracle happens and he turns the corner. My 2 year old and him are best buddies and have been for quite some time. I am afraid my boy will not even remember him. We are visiting him once a month (5 hour drive one way) and just hoping like crazy we get more time or a memory or 2 imprints.

    I’m not crying you are.

Sounds like a similar situation I had with my FIL last year, he passed in Sept. I would have liked to get more videos of him and my kids but but just didn’t for a variety of reasons. Bums me out that my kids won’t know/remember their grandpa.

There’s some video project ideas out there that the idea is to film the person talking about their life or leaving messages for big future milestones. Tough topic to suggest to the person though.

A few weeks ago I explained to the 9 year old what the quote I had just said to him, "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley ", came from

He has been insistent that we watch Airplane since

Finally watched it together, just finished. He laughed at so much of it.
I am feeling so much pride right now

Was taking a shower with my 13 month old (Where Eagles Dare please convert to how many Whitney Houston national anthems that is) when she goes from sitting to all fours and rockets out turds as naturally and casually as a farm animal. Ended up just waffle stomping those fuckers and using copious amount of various soaps to clean.

Hope y’all have a great Saturday

Financially savvy dads, our son just turned 1. At 6 months we started putting a decent monthly chunk into a 529 College Savings Plan for him.

When it comes to birthday money he receives at this age, should we just dump that into the 529 too, or look for a higher interest general savings account (looks like Discover has a 3% interest rate which is decent) to accrue some “pocket change” for him when he gets older, or do something more savvy (which I’m not so I implore you to impart your wisdom)??

No one knows what the future will do, but it would probably be wiser to put that money into the 529 due its exposure to the market (which in our lifetimes, has given much higher returns than savings accounts), its tax advantage, and beneficiary flexibility.

That's kind of a boring situation for your kid so you could split it up so that like 25% goes to a savings account and 75% to the 529, but that's up to you.

We do a 529. I wouldn’t do a 3% savings account if the plan is to give it to him in 18 years. You should target higher returns.

I feel bad for some reason my kindergartener is still in his car seat but he’s on the small side. Want to get a high back booster so he can be a big kid (and get out easier for school) but guidelines say to wait until max weight. Which is nuts since his car seat says it can go up to like 100+ pounds. So confusing

Son is at my in-laws for the week. The last 3 times he has gone out of town, either to my mom's or the in-laws, the following has happened

    1. Wife and I get covid, had to miss the UM-OSU game
    2. Wife got me blue jacket tickets for Xmas. Game gets postponed due to weather
    3. Springsteen concert tonight. He's sick and that's been postponed

Just  we actually have a sitter and no kid and everything goes to hell

Finally over our first Covid wave. Wife, then the 10 month old, 2 year old, 5 year old, and finally me. Id suggest not getting covid. Oh and we got a new puppy 5 days before it all started. Would also not suggest that.

I can’t imagine keeping a kid in their car seat until they are 100lbs. My 8 year old is probably 60 lbs. He probably won’t hit 100 lbs until he is 12. He is in a no back booster currently but can legally sit on a normal seat in the back.

Car seats typically have a 5 year life.

I reconfigured our baby gate at the top of the stairs to be more childproof since my 1 year old was getting way too close to figuring it out.

Turns out I made it too childproof and my three year old couldn’t get by and ended up peeing her pants. She made a giant puddle at the top of the stairs then left pee footsteps everywhere cuz she had to come back downstairs to tell me. At least she was well hydrated.

    Yay me.
