The Athletic's article re Levy/ENIC, Conte, and the players all looking awful after this breakup is a pretty good write up. I mean, these 2 paragraphs about Conte strike at the heart of the problem with hiring him in the first place: Above all else, Spurs need to hire a manager who actually wants to be at Spurs; not someone who thinks he's too big for the club (or is too big for the club, I guess).
I don't know what to think on Enrique. Why would he even want the job? Tuchel would probably want assurances Spurs can't offer and (if successful) would leave the second a bigger job opened up. That might not be a bad thing though, as it would mean the club is headed in a positive direction
And the one that most confirms Conte’s ranting accusations about the club’s willingness to squeak 4th place perpetually.
I think we could do a lot worse than Poch. Conte is correct that Spurs ownership is either incapable or unwilling to spend what is needed to win the league, but all things considered, I think Pochettino did a better tactical job at the helm of his version of imperfect Spurs lineups than Conte did with his version of imperfect Spurs lineups (if that makes any sense). So in that sense, fuck Conte's rants about Spurs. The best we looked since the WC break were the matches his subordinate managed. The manager's job is to try to win matches with what you've got; not point fingers at everyone else in the universe if you drop points because you fucked up the tactics against fucking Southampton.
Bring back Poch. At least he'll play a true Spurs style and not the shit we've been subjected to since he left.
Dude simply refused to make substitutions until it was too late. And if Eriksen was out, we had no plan.
I remember ace boogie arguing with me that Wanyama was world class, great times Ignore me and enjoy your night
Wanyama was awesome but only for a short time before injuries ruined him. Poch played great football for a while until the team got stale and he got few new purchases. He definitely had his issues but I’ll take my chances with him and with our current spending ability over any of the other choices.
Poch played great football until Dembele and Wanyama broke down. They were the key to everything. Especially Dembele, who really was world class for 18-24 months. He was impossible to play against. He’d dominate a midfield by himself and was a total cheat code. Under pressure in our own half? Just kick the ball in Dembele’s general direction and he’ll recover it and retain possession. Attack breaking down? Just pass to Dembele and he’ll dribble past one player and shrug off another. Pressing high up the pitch and they beat the press? Dembele will chase them down and take the ball away. He and Eriksen covered up a lot of weaknesses in Poch’s tactics.
I've seen some rumors that Arne Slot is our number one target for manager. Interesting links. He is a relatively new manager, very progressive, and killing it in the Dutch league.
https://www.foottheball.com/manager...-coach-playing-style-tactics-analysis-career/ bit of an analysis on his style. 4-2-3-1 85% of the time, 4-3-3 otherwise. Would be a sign of a rebuilding project but I don't know if we can avoid that at this point.
Spurs twitter obviously trending towards Nagelsman but seeing some of the regulars somewhat positive about our intentions.
I feel the realization that Tottenham is going to be his next club will be the last straw, and too much for him to bear. Thoughts & prayers.
Honestly though, “mutual” and Stellini staying on implies to me that NYGator isn’t far off, he’s had it very rough personally and neither side saw it right to continue. I hope Levy pushes for Nagelsmann now and pays the Bayern release fee rather than wait until Madrid lose Ancelloti and we don’t get our shot. Nagelsmann isn’t ignorant of that impending opening though, so I doubt he will agree to anything, even a delayed-start contract that gives him a personal break for the final 10 matches, until that Madrid situation coalesces.
Yes, this is an emotional guy. I can't even imagine what losing a couple of my best friends and having to get my gall bladder removed in the same season would do. I am just glad they could settle and he didn't hold us accountable for the 15M if we finish in 4th place or higher. I realize that is not an easy task, but would hate to have to pay it.
If Nagelsmann is smart he won’t take this job. We’re probably going to have to target someone who is unproven and is looking to advance their career.
He’s not sacked, just relieved of duties. They have to pay him ongoing his salary until 2026. Bayern wants 5-10m from what I’d seen.
