We've violent internationally because that's how we've gained power and that's how we keep money rolling through the military industrial complex. We have a lot of violence domestically (although like, way way lower than any other time in the country's history statistically) because we glorify violence, don't provide citizens any level of healthcare (including mental healthcare), we have 3rd world poverty that we refuse to address, systemic oppression of minority and historically disenfranchise communities, shit public education in most cities, and a war on drugs that's claimed countless lives. And more guns owned by private citizens than there are citizens. I don't think we're violent just because we bomb kids in Yemen.
I said in the mass shooting thread that I have lost a lot of fiends and family to gun violence and I never thought to get a gun. I also battle enough depression that a gun just isn’t a good fit for me mentally.
You have to have to own enough safes to store every single gun you own, and then put a giant tax on safes
Man, We live in a place that has been at war war more than it has not. To think there’s a disconnect between actions of people that this place produces abroad and their actions at home is naive at best, bordering on being willfully ignorant. The imperial boomerang is well documented, we’re just getting ours now.
Understandable..Haven't lost friends to it fortunately but there's no way I have a gun in my house with the level of anxiety& depression I deal with.
People finding new and creative ways to ensure that only the rich have the means to defend themselves. Liberals gonna lib, I guess.
I own a hand gun to protect my family bc someone actually broke in and murdered someone I love when I was younger. It also threw my life upside down. It stays at my home. Am I a pussy?
Not a pussy, but you clearly don’t understand statistics. Also, holy shit at your life experiences. Sorry you’ve had to deal with different versions of trauma. Hope you write a memoir some day.
My one and only question for 2A folks: What number of dead kids is your threshold to where you all start to think maybe we should do literally anything at all to protect our children? It wasn't enough at Sandy Hook or Parkland, so I'm guessing it's at least in the 30s?
They ignore causation. They won’t answer the question, because they disagree with the underlying assumption that banning guns protects children. We’re way past the point of no return on effectively reasoning with them. The majority just has to legislate it into effect.
If 25 or 17 dead kids wasn't enough, then I can guarantee you 30 isn't even close to their threshold. No number will be large enough until it directly affects them.
They don't think it will happen to their kids or they don't have kids which is to say they don't care. You would get that answer if you could get them to admit gun control would work... which they prob won't because they don't want to say the first part or loud.
Those people wouldn’t even budge on the issue if their own kids were killed in a school shooting. They’d still want more guns. The only reason they’d ever part with their guns would be if they were really really hard up for money and had to sell them. Even then they’d probably let the electricity and water get shut off before selling them.
It’s exactly this. 1,000 kids could be murdered in schools tomorrow by AR-15s, and they all truly believe the gun had no causal effect on the murders. It’s all bad people who need to be deterred by making schools “hard targets” and ultimately killed by punisher worshipping security guards, despite all evidence that none of that shit actually matters much. They believe that doors are more responsible for school shootings than guns, and no amount of death will make them reconsider. The only way things change is if protests become so big and undeniable that politicians are forced to act or watch in horror as brunches are disrupted.
The "but you can kill people with handguns" arguments are so dumb. It's like putting a box cutter and a samurai sword in the same category. An untrained idiot can do more damage with an AR in 10 seconds than a navy seal could do with a handgun in 5x as long. It's not just about capacity, it's accuracy and just how much more damaging the rounds are. Sadly, because of how often there are shootings like this, you can see video of the comparisons. People can get shot 4-5 times with a hand gun and survive, but full grown adults get hit with ARs and just drop instantly. And to answer the question about "how many kids", for these people there literally isn't a number. Could be 1,000 tomorrow in a single instance and they wouldn't change.
Having separate mass shooting and 2nd amendment threads is the spiderman pointing at another spiderman meme
Permit to buy handgun no longer required in North Carolina In the wake of the 130th mass shooting of the year, North Carolina Republicans took it upon themselves to make it EASIER to buy guns, overriding the governor's veto and rescinding the need for a permit to purchase handguns. Once again, Republicans have witnessed our children being slaughtered in school and reacted by arming their killers.
They’d be really disappointed with the whole women and POC voting and holding office thing, but I bet even they’d be horrified how fucking dumb for the sake of grifting this country has become.
I don't have kids and states moving towards no permit open carry scares the shit out of me. More guns aren't the answer and nobody cares.
