We just got a good new indie bookstore in Columbia, SC. Place is great. Maybe the undergrads will stop in on their way to the bar
Can't smoke weed, can't get an abortion, can't find books at libraries, etc. Red states suck man. Move if you can
Dont get too excited. Ive been burned too many times getting excited for books that have gotten optioned for film and tv. Then the projects are dropped.
I think somewhere on tmb I learned of “the last thing he told me” and had no idea it was already adapted into a series with Jennifer Garner.
Here’s a weird request: wife wants to find some books that are like the Jordan documentary, the behind the scenes, the tea… but not about sports. Movies? Pop culture? Any help is appreciated!
I know Ive heard of books like this, but cant think of any off the top of my head. It's novel, but she may like Daisy Jones and the Six. The premise is interviews for a behind the scenes doc about a 70s rock group that's an obvious stand in for Fleetwood Mac.
Struggle busing the way through Outlive by Dr Peter Atilla. Think I’m through all the depressing as shit stuff around heart disease, metabolic disease and Alzheimer’s.
Tinderbox by James Andrew Miller Those Guys Have all the Fun by James Andrew Miller(although about espn) Live from New York by James Andrew Miller Unscripted by James Stewart Loudest Voice in the Room by Gabriel Sherman
Just bought it yesterday, but As You Wish by Cary Elwes. It's a behind the scenes of the making of the Princess Bride
I kind of want to read Dune? I dunno how good it is but the movie was awesome and the trailer for part two is sick Would be different from my usual stuff for sure which could be nice
Go for it! I’m gearing up for a reread. Consumed it rapidly after watching Part One. I did get derailed early on in reading the second book, so maybe I can reinvigorate momentum by going back to the start.
Not sure exactly where to put this but you have to take Haley's autobiography with a big grain of salt now
I could be way off, but I think he made some claims around Roots that was found to be completely fabricated. Like he felt the need to embellish the truth for dramatic purposes when the truth was already compelling. It's been a while since Ive read/seen those criticisms, so it's entirely possible it was just backlash to Roots making people feel icky about history. But also - seems to track with the new info about King/Malcom X. As an aside - I saw that new bio of King was released. Ultimately decided to pass, because what more could be written on him. But that makes me more likely to read it lol
Any recs on a OKC/Timothy McVeigh book? Currently watching the 2nd season of Waco and have Jeff Guinns book on my list. 2nd season shows how Waco influenced McVeigh. I was in 1st grade, maybe kindergarten when it happened so wanted to read up on it
Jeff Toobin (CNN guy who got caught jacking off on Zoom) released one recently called Homegrown Can't speak to it personally but he's easy to read generally. Wrote the famous book on the OJ case among others.
I recently read Waco Rising by Kevin Cook. It was more about how Waco motivated the rise of militias. But really it was pretty meh. Didnt really get too indepth.
If you're into historical fiction I'm reading a book now called Griswoldville that's really good. Covers the use of the Georgia militia towards the end of the Civil War and it's effects on the families. Easy read and by no means a literary classic but enjoyable.
New Yorker books section had an article on this last week. At first I was like sweet, it's gonna tell me exactly which book to read. By the end of the article it's mentioned five or more, so I'm still not sure. But has several ideas including the book Truman mentioned https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/...vin-cook-book-review-homegrown-jeffrey-toobin
Library notice that a book I’d been slowly working on is due tomorrow. Proceeded to read the remaining 180 pages this morning haha. The Fifth Season, btw
There’s apparently a lot of new information. Includes some new insights with what came out from the Hoover stuff. Planning to start it soon
