Just heard this guy on a podcast. Basically argues that cartels are a boogeyman used to justify increased militarization both in Mexico and the United States. Also alleges the CIA assassinated Kiki Camerena. https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/oswaldo-zavala-interview-mexico-cartels/
A cartel is just a group of friends that got together to start a business in a market without a large corporate presence.
Been awhile since I've been down the rabbit hole so I don't remember all the details. The gist is basically the CIA was involved on some level in drug trafficking to fund other off the books interests. Camerena's work interfered with this. The guy who worked with him the most closely is convinced the CIA gave him up to the cartel.
This doc is good and covers a lot of it... https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B08D11X73N/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r
It's pretty obvious the CIA didn't gaf about the DEA and the American government gave a lot less of a fuck about drugs in Mexico and Central and South America than they did about communism.
I mean we know the CIA sold arms illegally to fund a paramilitary group. It's pretty feasible they'd let one guy be killed who was in their way.
It’s like the narrative that the CIA flooded American cities with crack. That’s not exactly what happened but it was a result of CIA activities and they didn’t stop it, sometimes even using drug trafficking as a money or information source
It is 100% Ale. He posted like 6 times, two years before Ale got banned. Then, he started regularly posting about a week after the ban. Also, his pre-ban posts were all on days Ale didn’t post or directly supporting Ale.
Drug Cartels Do Not Exist: Narcotrafficking in US and Mexican Culture (Critical Mexican Studies) https://a.co/d/j3IB4oF
I'm sure there is a whole heaping lot of racism involved in this cartel thing ( we ARE talking about the US government here)
that is fucking hysterical ok but like, the response to Camarena's death was really bad for cartels. we can go with "the CIA makes dumb calls constantly" angle but that's exactly what it was, Kiki was one man against a wave of narcotrafficking, he would drown under it no matter what he did but his death changed things and the DEA became a far bigger thorn in the side of cartels for it. Kiki could have pointed out every major Mexican head of narcotrafficking and their political connections would have laughed in his face over it. he died and the US government dragged their musty nuts all over Mexico's face, exerting overwhelming, indefensible pressure which got a lot of people killed and arrested.
“when he challenged that idea with his book Los Cárteles No Existen (The Cartels Do Not Exist), which argues that violence and trafficking do not threaten the state but rather are central to its operations.”
The Caravan of Death/Pinochet death squad in 1970’s Chile is built off of this (Which neo nazis’s are using nowadays. The recent Texas shooter had a “Right Wing Death Squad” tag on his body vest. Highly recommend listening to the Behind the Bastards on the CIA and American crack epidemic.
It’s pretty good. Also check out the Dictators series on Augusto Pinochet’s rise and fall. US intelligence has never had an issue with far right extremism murdering progressive activist or political leaders.
