Reed is heading straight for America's most tornado prone county. It's happening. "With the three confirmed in Weld County on 4/25, that makes 296 since 1950. NWS says that’s more than any other county in America."
I know rain can be highly localized, but our weather forecast has been so underscoring our rain totals recently it feels like this year. Been about 2 inches or more several times in the past couple months. This morning the weather lady said "we've had places with 2 inches or more..." We have had 9!! Inches of rain since this time yesterday according to our backyard rain gauge. Are these types of gauges just way more inaccurate than I realized, is it just the localized nature of the rain, or if neither, why has my local weather been that far off?
Those gauges aren't super accurate and where they're sited can be an issue. Better than nothing, but these are pretty good and are used for the Cocorahs program: Official original CoCoRaHS gauge – WeatherYourWay. It's possible you've gotten quite a bit more than surrounding areas, but I wouldn't trust that gauge. Generally, where are you located? Re: the rain, if you've had anything convective (thunderstorms), that's when forecast rain amounts can be way off, cause the rain can be very localized. That's also why I say phone weather apps aren't always very good for active/highly variable weather.
Central Arkansas. We've definitely had some thunderstorms. I mean we're in a flash flood warning so it's not like they haven't been taking the rain threat seriously. It just has seemed way off on overall predictions recently.
An I will say our gauge is just one giant test tube type catcher. No funnel or anything, rounded bottom. Sits out away from house/trees but we do have pretty tall oak/pines within 50 yards so maybe its too close to those types of trees and getting some off the trees when the wind blows? But it's not terrible far off because water was definitely over parts of the road earlier.
some cocorahs obs of total precip since last Friday. A few places close to 6"; definitely a lot of rain for you regardless
