Effexor does that to a man. Edit: I was in the backseat of a tiny little car on 77 south near Charlotte last year and we got rear-ended by a big ass Chevy suburban SUV. Pushed the trunk pretty far in. Thank fuck the airbags didn’t deploy. The driver and guy in the front seat were shaking and crying. I literally said “Ope. Done spilt my beer” and that was it. Meds are wild lol
My friends in WA are all huge mountain bikers and always urge me to join. They also regularly are dealing with cracked ribs, broken wrists, and all other moderate to severe injuries from crashing into a tree or falling down a mountain. I have a pretty big appetite for risk, but it's a bit much for me.
Bill Burr has a great bit from before he was married about how if the sky diving success rate was the same as the divorce rate you would be insane to go sky diving.
What an idiot. Also, terrifying to think about the realizations he went through. On a separate topic though, it seems like cruise lines could have better response options by now. Seems as if you fall in and they throw you a floatie, and if you miss it you're just done for by the time the boat can turnaround. Couldn't they have some sort of quick launch powered dinghy or something at the ready?
yeah seriously - here’s your billion dollar cruise ship! We have an option for a $25,000 boat to save anyone in case they go overboard, would you like to … oh, no? Ok…
Easier said than done. You have to think that it would take a few minutes for one of the drunk kids at that part of the ship to tell a crew member, then it gets relayed to the bridge, which in turn relays to launch the rescue boat. And then you have to find a drunken idiot in the water at night where visibility is close to zero unless you have a completely clear sky and full moon, and even then, it isn't easy with light reflecting off the water. If that kid doesn't have some kind of light or flare or something, finding him in the dark would be a complete luck.
I have felt like a moron a number of times in my life but I feel like that would dwarf anything I've ever felt
Trying that in the daylight is risky enough. But doing it at night when the sky and water are an endless mash-up of blackness, he dead. If I had to bet, I’d say he was having someone film it for him so he could post it for clout later. Really terrible that he was so young and for his family, but I can’t help myself from thinking stupid games, stupid prizes.
Peer pressure is a mfer. Don't think he should have to pay with his life for doing something stupid at 18 though
You’re definitely right either way. Pressure or no. The social media era has jaded me I think. So first thought tends to be “for the gram” rather than pressured. But yeah, regardless no one deserves that. After reading a book about the USS Indianapolis, it would’ve taken a few million dollars and a life raft already in the water to even consider doing that.
what age do you think the, "don't jump off of a cruise ship into the dark waters below" lesson is learned?
Is there a post or something stating why they think this? Other than the fact that there are sharks in the ocean.
it's in the reddit thread. someone speculates that you can see a shark at 0:03 in the video and people say there are lots of sharks in the area of the harbor where he jumped off. the original article (which seems to have been edited) said they weren't sure if it was the current or sharks that pulled him under. in reading the articles, this was a booze cruise-style party boat and not a full-on cruise ship. obviously still really dumb to jump off of it (especially at night) but i thought this was, like, a Carnival cruise liner based on the video title.
Sharks just immediately going buffet style on a human when they've only been in the water for a few seconds goes against everything Discovery channel has taught me about sharks. Has Discovery been lying??
