The new narrative going around is that he was Brighton’s first choice ahead of Di Zerbi and he said no. I really don’t know what t9 think other than I’ve been relatively happy with everyone when hired, so maybe not being optimistic is the key. that said, when I get to the point of weighing in it usually means things blow up spectacularly and we are on to the next target.
I’m certainly not worried about Marseille as competition. If the point is “Marseille is his level” then that’s whatever. I did do a TMB search and I was first to bring up Ange on March 10th, over 2 weeks before Conte was sacked. So I might be being sentimental, I just really like what he brings tactically and I do want a manager who wants to prove themselves at Tottenham rather than to do us a favor by deigning us with their presence, giving less than 100%. Give us something exciting to watch without the dread of “when will this ticking time bomb explode?”
I’d be happy with AP as a coach and tactician, but share the same worry that he’s being brought in mainly because he won’t demand a lot of money to be spent on transfers.
Everything I’ve seen so far is Kane doesn’t want to move abroad and nobody is going to pay what Levy will want to sell within the PL.
He is holding most of the cards since his contract runs out after next year. He sticks with us and sees if we can turn it around and ultimately get what he wants or he leaves on a free for a huge money contract within the EPL to wherever he wants to go.
I prefer a manager with EPL experience. If it's someone from outside England then I'd want someone who's had success at a pretty high level. A guy who's managed in Australia, Japan and Scotland doesn't move the needle for me. If he plays an attacking style that would at least be easier on the eyes then guys we've hired since Poch.
Honestly, all that’s left that fits “attacking” and “high level experience” is Nagelsmann. Amorin too low level, Gallardo too low level, De Zerbi barely PL experienced and going nowhere. Rodgers not attacking enough. Enrique counterattacking and not the right squad match. Get the DoF hired, call Nagelsmann and see if he would be pleased with him, if no then hire Ange.
He would be dumb to not just play out the last year of his contract. One of the Manchester clubs will give him a 50m signing bonus unless he tears up his knee
Agreed and if somehow we turn the shipa round he also leaves that option open. The question is will Levy be able to hold out if someone offers him over $100M now for kane.
Even if someone offers whatever levy’s price is kane would be dumb to leave. He can sign a pre contract jan 1
I don’t follow close enough to even know names. I’m just not excited about a guy who’s only managed in Australia, Japan and Scotland. Going from that to a top English team is a gigantic jump. Not sure if I’ve even commented on any other rumored name except obviously wanting Nagelsmann. I also didn’t mean the new manager has to come in with hardware. Success could be taking a low level team to mid table or taking a mid team and finishing top 6 or 8. I just want someone that’s managed in a top tier league and has shown they can improve a team.
Here I go watching the Scottish Cup final, the last step in my being-invested-in-a-coach-before-they-snub-us timeline.
First half assessment: Passing between the lines, progressive, off ball movement drilled into patterns, pressing quickly after losing possession. Willing to slow down the pace and play between backline and midfield to bring the last defender all the way beyond the opponent’s side of the center circle. The players themselves are not quite talented enough to do some of the things they try, passing quality in particular. Lots of play on the flanks. Spreads the opponent’s backline, where Celtic have at least four or five attackers across, some stepping back to drag defenders (Kane specialty) to create gaps. they’ve just scored their first in the 38’. Patient buildup and then a line breaking pass from defensive line to the right channel, cutback to Kyogo making a near post run. Inverness will have to come out of their shell now.
Second half, largely in control without letting off the gas. Did get caught by a very sweet cross to concede in the 84th. Right back on the pedal and reclaimed their two goal cushion. I say make it happen, this could be a really good system with the talent that we do have.
I think some players would be great in his system, especially players on loan like Lo Celso and Gil, but our defense would still be a disaster.
A midfield of Lo Celso - Bissouma - Bentancur looks really good on paper. And AP is known as a very positive personality so maybe he can be the one to get Ndombele to try.
They need to throw down on 2 defenders and a goalie. I think any system that presses higher and sees more of the football is going to be better than sitting back rope-a-doping for 90 minutes hoping to catch clubs on the counter.
I think you should be. I watched a fair bit of Celtic this year (you mad RockHardJawn39 ?) and think he can have y’all playing fun football again
Before all of the squad changes and shit that’s left before next season starts, I’ll put down my expectations in a post to return to: I expect a trophy of any type by end of year 3, but Europa qualification this year and Champions League qualification the second year. Just progress. Also, I hope Kane falls in love with Ange and the play style and resigns. I don’t expect it but I hope.
I will say I am not unhappy about it. He checks all the boxes except for experience in a major league. At least there is something to be optimistic about.
I’m posting this after every win, be forewarned. This is just like the Suns gorilla air guitar gif. I hope to post it a lot.
