Any of you getting this too? My wife got a headache about an hour ago and my throat started getting irritated from being outside https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/canada-nova-scotia-wildfire-smoke-northeast-mid-atlantic
I remember one day this summer it was so bad I couldn’t go golfing because we couldn’t track the ball. The 2004 fire season of Alaska had large impacts on the air quality and safety of nearby populations. These impacts most significant in Fairbanks, Alaska.[1] For over 15 days, particulate matter measured 1,000 micrograms per cubic meter, well over the EPA thresholds for hazardous and unhealthy air quality.[1] To put it into perspective, an area deemed to be unhealthy typically has 65 micrograms of smoke particulate per cubic meter, while an area deemed to be hazardous has anymore than 250 micrograms per cubic meter.[1] Normal levels in Fairbanks, Alaska are typically 10 micrograms per cubic meter.
Out here for work Pretty funny, I asked my guy who lives here about the Big Durian and he gave me a wtf look like nobody calls it that
Denver had some of the worst air in the world 10 days ago due to the fires in the Canadian Rockies. Hung around for a few days too
Yeah I was in Omaha at the time and it was bad there too...had no idea wtf was going on until I read about it later
Were getting crushed her in Ottawa, obviously not as bad as you west coasters have seen but it’s the worst I’ve seen in my time
Milky white/gray stuff is the smoke. Hard to see with the thicker clouds, but shows up well on this satellite product.
I will also note, some phones give you air quality on the built in weather app. Take it with a grain of salt. I have seen some very wonky, not realistic values. Not sure if it's weird interpolation problems, lack of data, or pulling in data from a wonky sensor. Not something TMB likely needs to hear, but I see so many idiots take the data as gospel. Could be the clearest day we've had in years and their phone says air quality is like 600 and they freak out. Use your brains people
Current AQI here north of Syracuse is 202, or "Very Unhealthy." Looks like an old Instagram filter outside.
What if everyone stood on one end of the island, and all blew their air out, like the three villains in Superman II?
I’m rookie numbers here. Looks hazy during the day, foggy at night. Smells like shit. Regardless, gives more perspective to what the west coast people went through. I’m 1000 miles away and it’s bad.
Getting smoked out here in Ottawa, it’s unpleasant. Throat is closing up and my eyes are sore. Started my day at work but probably going to leave
EVs are part of the solution, but fuck me if we aren't ever going to meaningfully tackle this problem and just let the Earth cook.
Smells like a campfire in DC and visibility is way down. Can’t even imagine how bad it is closer to the fires.
I went for a walk a bit ago and could feel it in my eyes almost the entire time. The kids daycare also sent a message that they were slashing their outdoor time to almost none today. Not great in the Columbus area...
This is about what it was when I was in Santa Rosa during the Camp Fire in 2018. It was dark outside for 3 days.
Just walked outside in Long Island and can't believe what it is like outside. You can literally see, smell, and taste the smoke. The last time I recall anything like this was 9/11 and that was only 20 miles away.
