I can't believe it's already been a year since Scott Frost was fired. It felt like any other day. I'll always remember where I was when I got the news- checking my texts coming out of a screening of Barbarian (good movie). Husks, today and every day, let us not forget the games lost and the heroes who emerged. September 11th reminds us of the importance of cherishing our loved ones, standing united as Huskers, and striving for reasonably timed onside kicks. #neverforget
Let’s just ride with this dude and hope it opens up the Iowa Western pipeline https://huskers.com/sports/football/roster/season/2023/player/luke-longval
I listen to the radio on the way to work because I have like a 5 minute drive. Some of these clowns that call in on a consistent basis have to be the dumbest of the dumb. This dude that goes by “Kool Aid Steve” calls in and compares Husker fans to Biden voters hahaha Then he starts going down the QB depth chart and doesn’t know Haarbergs name. Then starts talking about using the next two games to prepare for “I don’t know who we play when B10 play starts back up”
LOL I forgot to add that. I’ve heard that dude call in before but usually tune him out because he just rambles for 15 minutes about god knows what.
I was also in the car for about 10 mins this morning and switched over to 590 and quickly remembered why I can’t stand listening to DB.
I think it might be even worse with the new co-host. They both just come off like guys who want to sound as in-depth as possible.
My favorite post I’ve seen in awhile is someone saying Turner Gill didn’t start until game 5 as the reasoning for Haarberg. I’m assuming Haarberg doesn’t start because he practices like Jeff Sims plays
That’s the issue. Sure Sims is looking like a WOAT but who knows what’s behind him. Sure the backups might be able to catch a snap but I’m sure there’s a high probability they just mess something else up. It’s not like we have some inexperienced guy that has all the tools waiting in the wings. We have a hybrid TE and a banged up Chubba. Not saying we shouldn’t go to the backup but we’ve been in this position for awhile where all the QBs are meh so if you start pulling guys every mistake we’re going to have a new QB every couple drives.
I’m giving Rhule the benefit of doubt until not. The coaches watch practice all day, every day. If there was someone better, he would be playing.
This makes sense to me. I was watching the game and his body language reminded me of a couple of my workers who don't really give AF. They're just there to collect a paycheck.
Regardless, you can’t claim you care about turnovers and not make a change at this point. If Haarberg has 8 turnovers in 2 games then we’ll know he’s worse than Sims. If you're gonna be embarrassing on offense and lose games anyways you might as well be consistent in messaging and not a hypocrite.
Went back and looked at stats. 177/302 - 58.6% - 2143 yards, 14 TDs, 10 picks. Tanner Lee - 246/428 - 57.5%, 3143 yards, 23 TDs, 16 picks. Jeff Sims through 2 games - 20/34, 58.8%, 220 yards, 1 TD, 4 picks (+2 fumbles) He's basically Zach Lee who can run but turned the turnovers up to 11.
We're definitely 1-1. Colorado is a lot of hypotheticals since it started so early and got away before the last 8 minutes. 2-0 is absolutely possible though.
Anyone who doesn't literally give the other team the game on a silver platter is an improvement and may/should have won both.
My problem with Rhule blaming preparation, the scheme, practicing against our chaotic D etc is that these turnovers are completely utterly and entirely in line with his play in three prior D1 seasons.
Pistachio too low As though the demon Fuckusabub's mischievous meddling in our football program wasn't enough, also had to give my kid a mortal allergy to the two GOAT nuts in 'shews and 'chios
If I have to watch one more husktweet account celebrate blocking CU’s best corner for two plays in a 14-36 loss I swear I might KMS
In the perfect world which doesn’t exist for Husker football. We win both games. And the backups either show us why or why not Sims should remain the starter.
Considering I’ve already given up on any prospect of a bowl game, I can now relax and enjoy bad football. It will be interesting to see how mediocre Haarberg is though. The tale as old as time is the fan base’s favorite player being the backup quarterback and thinking they are smarter than the coach who has actually watched practice.
This is not a normal backup qb situation. Jeff Sims is the worst QB I've ever seen at Nebraska. He's actively losing everyone else games. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills in this thread.
He didn't really play enough to register but he only threw 3 picks in 122 passing attempts at Nebraska. Automatically better than Jeff Sims.
I’m not going to say that Haarberg or Chubba, at their best, could be better than Sims at his best. But there’s frequently situations in CFB where the head coach brings in HIS guy and inherently favors him because he sees the upside in him that caused the recruitment in the first place, resulting in blinders regarding what he already has inherited at that position. If either backup plays at their maximum, that’s going to be better than the shittiest version of Sims we’ve received so far this season, full stop. I don’t think some in this thread fully appreciate just how bad he’s played.
I don't think Haarberg or Chubba are good or even mediocre. I assume they're also bad but Sims has been so incredibly bad that I can't see how anyone gives him any benefit of the doubt ITT. It's insane. He's killing everyone else on a team that's actually pretty good to decent in several areas.
haarbs also seems to be very popular, could be useful to galvanize the team a bit in the current 0-2 situation (especially the defense)
We are tied for the most turnovers lost (8) and have the worst turnover margin in CFB (-3) and Jeff Sims is responsible for almost all of them in some way. And they weren't even close turnovers, bad bounces, or big hits. They were nearly all unforced, like, grade school level errors. How is anyone defending him?
This is a good point. I do agree that a change at QB is in everyone’s best interest, possibly including Sims. I think my annoyance with the fan base comes when they challenge the competence of Rhule. It’s been two games, let the guy cook.
The thread is making some weird connection between calling Jeff Sims an incompetent quarterback and questioning Rhule's ability to be a good HC at Nebraska. You can be objective and call Sims a horrible quarterback while also thinking Rhule can ultimately turn it around. As the thread knows, I do think letting CT go was a mistake on Rhule's part but it's done. He wasn't that great and would have, at best, likely made this a mediocre season. Now what do you do going forward to try to make things better in a terrible season? Being bullheaded and playing Sims ain't it. At least if you claim to value clean football and lack of turnovers. It's ok to say Rhule isn't perfect while also still thinking he's the guy to make it better.
There’s multiple parts to it right now. - I don’t think it’s as simple as saying Rhule ran CT out of Lincoln. Pretty sure his dad said they felt it was best he spent his final season in a spot he knew he’d play. I don’t blame Rhule for not guaranteeing a starting spot to a dude who couldn’t throw all spring. What if he wasn’t ready for fall, we’d be crying about that. - Picking Sims was dicey due to his turnover history but I assume the staff thought they could set him up for success. I doubt they felt they needed to account for him not catching snaps. Plus the QB depth is terrible. - Now you have a QB who possibly has the yips so it’s gone from a normal QB debate to “would a guy who can catch a snap be better by default?” that’s what we’ll find out now. I don’t think the offense as a whole is talented enough for it to matter much except for maybe winning the field position battle. It’s not like our RBs are breaking off 30 yard runs consistently, or the WRs aren’t dropping passes.
Every year we step on our dicks in ways I think are impossible. At this point, I’m terrified of the future
Next year all our QBs hands fall off and we play nothing but triple option wishbone with a walk on from Ord throwing 6 times all year
