These candidates are fucking idiots and losers and, outside of a cult of personality, I'm not sure how they'll garner enough support to be competitive nationally. I think there is a good looking white guy out there in his 30s right now who is smart, ruthlessly racist and sociopathic enough to wear the mask while campaigning. If he leans into the anti immigrant, populist messaging without going full mask off he will be a problem. No idea who it will be but that person worries me.
Beyond Trump, the evangelical Christian movement has done irreparable damage to itself once Trump’s gone. Nobody wants their bullshit and their desperate grab for power is going to leave them more marginalized than before without Trump around to protect them. Think of the Puritans after the witch trial hysteria died down.
Nazi Germany was packed to the gills with extremely angry white guys every bit as psychotic, manipulative and ruthless as Hitler was. But none of them were Hitler. It’s how cults of personality work. You can’t just swap in a different bad guy because these people don’t think particularly deeply about the nuances of policy.
Their problem is almost everyone who shares their opinions turns out to be a weird loser that everyone hates. I think it's far more likely they'll end up with a bunch of wannabes that can't recreate Trump than they are to find someone sociopathic enough to both be likeable/charming while also hating everyone who isn't a white christian man.
And it's worth noting that Trump has also never won a general election popular vote and has in fact lost 2 elections by millions of votes per election. He's the "best" of them.
