4 fouls against Illinios in half/OT.. What a fucking joke. They can get away with murder while we can't do anythin
Must be nice to have all these fouls to give despite handchecking the perimeter and off ball the entire second half
there was no way this crew was letting us get out of there with a W tonight unless we were 15 points better
The refs didn’t have the balls to throw his ass out early and that T was well worth it. They completely let it dictate the last few minutes and overtime.
Annoying af that we didn’t get a win tonight but we missed some chances and it was legit 8 v. 5. Play with that fire and we can win at IU, UM, etc. and play off the bubble quickly but they’ve gotta be locked in
my wife asked why Underwood was freaking out and got the early T and I told her it was so the refs would know what's up and sure enough, it completely dictated the entire second half and overtime. Big ten needs to do something about these guys, it doesn't do your top teams any favors in March to have the refs carry you to wins like tonight or Purdue vs NW.
Name one other profession where someone is levied a hefty fine for making any sort of public criticism of the quality of your work? Refs are some baby back bitches
Fucking sick to my stomach. Just a fucking atrocious display. 11-0 run over final 3:30 and you bail them out. the foul on what should’ve been a jump ball or steal. the no call on Mast, twice. the foul call on Keisei when Hawkins throws up a fucking airball. literally handed the game in the final 5:03
Has this kid played basketball before? He looks like a hockey player who likes to get in on pickup games at the gym once in a while. How TF you get to D1 traveling like that?
At least when our guys get to the paint and panic they’ve usually just thrown one up off the shot clock or get stuffed by the rim.
Best I’ve felt about Nebrasketball this season. They can compete on the road against a quality opponent. Go beat Northwestern and lock up a bid.
Just hoping we have something left in the tank after the last two games going to OT and requiring max effort. Hoping they were able to just stay out in IL and not have to travel just to be home for like a day and a half. Last night wasn’t perfect but they showed up after a big win, then answered the bell when it appeared a meltdown was on deck. Would love to see what we can do with an effort like that consistently.
I’ve been asking myself that SINCE Maric. Seems harder than you’d expect but it feels like there’s only a handful of legit bigs and I’d guess most pick Top 10 schools. The rest are all big guys that have to be developed which is mostly what we’ve had lately (Jordy Tshimanga, Yvan, etc). I would guess Fred would prefer to have a big who plays like Mast does and can stretch the floor and dish it a little bit. Unless a legit post presence wanted to sign up for the Nebrasketball experience.
I don’t need us to have a legit big but somebody that plays like Gary but is a few inches taller would be ideal. Like if Allick didn’t suck ass
There’s usually a huge IF with any of our big men the last decade. Ed Morrow IF he wasn’t 6’7 and could put a shoe on without pain. Jordy T, IF he had touch and didn’t shot put hook shots. Yvan Ouedraogo if he wasn’t like 17 and shot better than 41% from 2 (I looked it up)
I think the biggest issue is big men with game are extremely hard to find and if they were easy people in the NBA would also want in on the action. If you find them well some team would pay you whatever price you want to charge. Mast is: - a really good shooter, 36% from deep and 83% from line. For his size he is REALLY good - I’d argue he is a top 3 passer for a big in the country. You might find ones as good, won’t find better. - fundamentally extremely sound. Good dribbler, a variety of moves on post and on perimeter. - Solid rebounder. Not great because…. Mast isn’t: - overly athletic, he isn’t a great rebounder because guys simply out jump him often and are quicker - while I think he is decently strong, he isn’t explosive and a guy as strong is going to win if they are close to equally strong if it’s Mast making a post move or stopping a post move. - Is big but isn’t massive. A good sized big but not a true 6’11” or taller or a 6’9”-6’10” guy with a huge reach Honestly, in the college game, it’s almost impossible to find a guy that checks all the big categories. The best dudes in NBA in this regard? They went straight to the league or like a year in college (many on the list below also have distinct weaknesses) - Greek Freak - Joker - Anthony Davis - Gobert - Embiid - Adebayo Maric probably isn’t any better for THIS team because the dude wouldn’t stretch the floor at all. You gain an advantage from inside with rebounding and defense and lose it stretching the floor and passing from up top.
Still thinking about that soft ass foul they called at the end of regulation. Can’t imagine the agonizing Fred goes through coaching this team in the big ten.
