Sam Webb reporting Mike Elston and Steve Clinkscale are probably both going to the Chargers with Harbaugh, although neither is done. This would be rather bad for Michigan. Clinkscale, especially. If there was a scenario where guys like Graham, Grant and Johnson looked around and got poached by some huge offers elsewhere, this would seem like the thing that would have needed to happen. And it would also be pretty terrible for recruiting.
Hate this goofy "I don't see color" asshole. His response over the black QB situation with Melrose told me everything I needed to know about him
I'm sure it's that and not the chance to be in charge Lol job security Guy like O'Brien is turning down gigs every off-season usual stupid shit from dennis
BoB also has a son with a rare condition (daily seizures, etc.) and the #1 specialist in the world for that condition happens to be based in Boston. This is as much to do with family than anything.
I happen to randomly sit close to this one as my entire family are BC alumni and a few happen to know the family. He's wanted the job for some time going back to when he was let go in Houston. Hafley had just taken over so the timing didn't work out.
Give the state of the program, BC would be extremely lucky to get someone with O’Brien’s resume even with the justified criticisms of his work
Michigan fans collectively letting racist shithead Chris Balas and starved-for-inside-info John Bacon convince them that Warde Manuel is the source of all evil in the world has really been something to watch.
I don't follow it closely enough on a day to day basis to speak intelligently on how Manuel is doing but it seems like he's not well liked by any significant portion of the fan base. There's idiots that still hate Gene Smith for the way things ended with Tressel and Smith is regarded as a top tier AD by pretty much everyone who knows the job, so you have that with any big fan base in America.
He’s not been a great AD imo. He’s also not been bad. He was like 3 months into the job when a group of guys who used to have access to the previous ADs decided they were going to run to media people like Balas with negative shit about Manuel that didn’t make sense and was patently racist. “He’s lazy. He spend more time on the golf course. People don’t see him around athletic campus. No one knows where he is.” Mind you, we never heard the same about his predecessor Jim Hackett who lived in Grand Rapids and came to campus a few days a week at best. These same guys tried to tell us Manuel was running Beilein off then beilein admitted he had a UM extension agreed but hasn’t signed it when he was secretly talking to the Pistons. When Juwan was hired, these guys tried to tell us that Manuel would only consider Black head coaches. Then they tried to tell us Juwan was recruiting “a different kind of player” because it wasn’t Beilein’s preference for suburban kids from two-parent families. They’ve told us for years that Manuel wanted Hatbaugh out - two extensions from Manuel later he won a national championship. Including Manuel extending him after a disastrous 2-4 2020 season and failing for years to compete with Ohio State - no one would’ve blamed Manuel for moving on from Jim at the time. More UM inside baseball than any of yall care to read but bottom line - Manuel’s been an adequate-enough AD dragged down by racist good old boys infuriated they don’t get access anymore.
Warde didn't hire Beilein (who rescued the MBB program), but was the AD when he left for the Cavs. He didn't hire Jim, but was the AD when Jim almost left for the NFL twice and ultimately did leave for the Chargers. He didn't hire Erick Bakich (who took the baseball team to the finals of the CWS once), but was AD when he left for Clemson. I don't think any of those things are his fault. All three left for promotions they wanted to take. But when you have a fan base that thinks Michigan should be the ultimate destination for everyone, and then long time UM media voices pushing the narrative that Warde shoved them all out the door, this is what you get. And it doesn't help that UM is behind just about everyone on what people think NIL is, and that his public comments on the subject make him sound like he's not interested in doing much about changing it.
Apart from the racist stuff, which has been Balas since Rivals days late 2000’s, it seems like Michigan media sites hate your ADs more than most. Bill Martin spent too much time sailing and missed Les Miles. Dave Brandon tried to sell the sports programs to corporate America. Maybe Hackett just didn’t spend enough time to be hated?
correct on Hackett. He came in and hired Harbaugh and then scooted. He completely ignored every other sport and his hairbrained ideas were never adopted so he’s loved
