I’ll qualify what I say on this topic comes from a little bit of an outdated mindset. I’m still mentally a little bit in 2020/21 where the jump from current to next was a lot bigger than it likely will be in the next year or two.

I want to pull the trigger on a R1S pretty badly but it having bench seating is killing us. Likely getting the EV9 here soon, but damn I wish the R1S would work for my wife and I.

This would be for my wife as she needs more room for work(currently with a Bronco Sport). The EV9 is probably the runner up if we can't wait on the R2. Very curious if you go the EV9 route what you think. It's just not as cool as the R1S it seems. I don't think anything is as cool as a Rivian out there right now tbh.

Test drove it yesterday. It’s still a really nice car it’s just missing some of the features the R1S has. Would save about 10k on the EV9 compared to the R1S.

like that’s a hell of a disclaimer, that’s a $1000 a month lease without the down payment / trade in

also Audi is one of the kings of high msrp/low lease price marketing

my Q4 is not as nice of a car as an etron GT but I’m paying $600 a month for a 10k/36 month lease with zero down and I sold my truck to Carvana and kept the money

Would've been $931/mo not $1K which for a $110K vehicle is a good deal with no cash down which it seems the guy was trying to get across with his tweet to be fair.

Assuming your Q4 MSRP was approx half of what the e-tron is...your payment is right in line with what his is... percentage of MSRP-wise.

You're right in that it's dumb to put anything down for a lease though, trade in or not. He better hope he doesn't get in any type of accident otherwise he might as well have just lit that $8K trade in cash on fire.

    A $110k vehicle isn't a $110k vehicle if you throw in $35k in rebates. That's a $75k vehicle.

I mean don’t get me wrong, the EV market is softening, but calling that a big deal when the actual effective lease price is over 50% more than the monthly payment advertised is super misleading

Right, so you'll end up paying ~31% of your cars MSRP over the life of your lease. He'll end up paying ~20%. His lease is for 2 years, yours is for 3 so both deals are paying right at 10% of their vehicles MSRP/year.

Do you use the 3rd row often and is it pretty easy to get back there? Bout to have a 3rd kid and need the 3rd row with a car seat. Wife thinks it'll be difficult for her to get back there to buckle the kids in.

We've been trying to find this answer in youtube videos and waiting on Rivian to come to Des Moines for a demo drive to get a good feel for it before we fully decide on what we are getting. EV9 3rd row just seems so much easier to access.

The 2nd row of seats fold very easy with the touch of a button, so should be fairly easy to access. My son is older now so haven’t had to deal with a car seat or anything. Personally think it’s currently the best family type car of your looking electric and a true SUV.

Are the kids still in full blown car seats? My two oldest are in booster with a back board and youngest one is still in a full seat. Putting them all in the second row can be a challenge because it’s a bit too narrow for easy access to the buckles but it can be done. The second row folds well as long as you don’t have a full sized seat tethered to it. Access is easy and the third row is really good size.

2 kids in car seats with the oldest still probably a year away from a booster. 1 kid (due in May) will be in a carrier. Didn't think we would be able to fit all 3 in the 2nd row. My thought was to put 2 car seats in the 3rd row and fold a 2nd row seat to buckle them in. Otherwise, 2 kids in the 2nd row wouldn't allow the seats to fold.

I'm fine with any of these setups, but my wife is worried how she would handle it and it's going to be her car, so want her to be comfortable with it.

Rivian earnings were rough today. Hope the R2 announcement is a hit and they can actually get them moving quickly. Otherwise the company is in trouble

They will be shutting down their only active factory this year, and I’m sure that makes investors nervous. Losing ONLY $43k/per vehicle is a massive improvement though.

    https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/21/rivian-lays-off-10-of-workforce-as-ev-pricing-pressure-mounts/

Rivian, which makes an all-electric pickup truck, SUV and a commercial van, has made progress on its loss per vehicle. Although it still has considerable ways to go before it gets close to break even. The company reported it lost $43,372 per unit delivered in the fourth quarter, a more than two thirds improvement from the $124,162 it lost per unit in Q4 2022.

Two biggest things are paint scratches/dents from transport, and panel mis-alignment. The later doesn't happen as often as it used to, but sometimes you can see an extra wide gap or off center gap between panels around doors or windows.

I sold my Model S last month, and I’m looking to get a used EV this summer, likely either a Bolt or a Mach-E. I’ll just be using it to go to work/take kids to school/drive within 100 miles or so of home. I know racer loved his Mach-E, but has anyone else owned either one of them?

I’ve had both. MME GT Perf currently, early Bolt so pretty different experiences. Mustang is really nice. No issues, no real complaints. Only minor issue I’ve had is with the app and charging while at work. Getting it to work seamlessly with location settings has been annoying. Wouldn’t be a problem if I wasn’t trying to charge during specific hours at home.

lol at this article. idk how you can write this, it's insane. Up 40% but a massive disappointment. The fuck?

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/25/cars/what-happened-with-electric-vehicle-sales-in-2023/index.html

How EVs became such a massive disappointment

To be clear: The American market for EVs is not collapsing. In the last quarter of 2023, EV sales were up 40% from the same quarter a year before, according to Cox Automotive. In fact, EV sales in the United States hit a record last year, topping 1 million for the first time.

But the EV market has nevertheless become a major disappointment. There is a troubling gap between expectations and reality.
