I have infinitely more faith that a group of disillusioned people who voted for Biden in 2020 could be persuaded back than my uncle could in a million years
I won’t yell at a member of a marginalized community that I’m not part of but I will yell at members of my community. I also don’t mean you personally when I write “you” I mean the general royal you.
Is it your position that rich people throwing buckets of money at politics to ensure favorable policy is not rigging?
The bigger deal was that Schiff pumped Garvey in his campaign ads because he knew that Garvey would be easier to beat in the general. Clever move, but not very sporting
Should probably not conflate totally legal election activities with illegal ones when our democracy be struggling and we're still jailing people from the last coup attempt
Agree, poor wording. She got outplayed by a better campaign Not unhappy with Schiff, but he and Lee are in safe districts and I had this fantasy of KP being safe in the Senate and able to run wild run free with her mentor Liz
There is a bit a difference between progressive candidates starting out with an enormous disadvantage in money and infrastructure compared to "establishment" democrats, and rigging the election. It is supposed to be hard to overturn the establishment. The bellyaching about how it wasn't fair any time a more progressive candidate loses a primary that was an obvious underdog is off putting. This shit is going to be hard.
FWIW her thank you letter to me this afternoon didn't use the word "rig" Last night didn’t go the way we hoped, and we came up short. I want to thank each and every one of you for the support you have shown over the years. I never even considered running for office until Trump was elected. To me, that was for people who were more polished – who had more perfect lives. People of a certain pedigree. But someone close to me said, “as a woman, if you wait your turn, you won’t get one.” And what I found out over the last 6 years is that by and large it's true—there aren't a lot of people in Congress who are single moms; there aren’t many of us who live paycheck to paycheck; who go to the grocery store and understand how much a pack of bologna costs. Americans are hungry for leaders who break the mold. We want honest leaders who are willing to call things like they see them. We want elected officials who will deliver truth to power and exact real accountability from big corporations and government bureaucrats. We want leaders who demand better from both parties – who want PROGRESS, not partisanship. Leaders whose bottom line is people, not profits. That's why WE were able to turn heads in this campaign and make the people in power listen. Let's be honest: I think all of us can agree, our government isn't working well for us. So many of those in power are too interested in helping other powerful people than paying attention to the needs of everyday people. They are more interested in BEING an elected official than actually DOING anything to fix the problems everyday people face. It's why billionaires fought so hard to keep me out of the Senate. Special interests and the ultra wealthy like politics as it is today because they control the politicians. And, like we’ve seen in this campaign, they spend millions to defeat someone who will dilute their influence and disrupt the status quo. Because of you, we had the establishment running scared – withstanding 3 to 1 in TV spending, an onslaught of billionaires spending millions peddling lies, and our opponents spending more to boost the Republican than promoting his own campaign. I've met so many people over the course of this race who tell me that they feel like their voices aren’t being heard by those who have the power. I’ll never stop fighting for all of those people. Thank you, thank you – from the bottom of my heart. Katie Porter
It’s going to be hard because capital has rigged the system. I will concede that her wording implies a specific interference in her election as opposed pointing out the problem with the system as constructed, and that’s just clouding the issue. Doesn’t mean the system isn’t rigged, though.
Yeah, voted for Porter but not mad at Schiff doing some smart politics. Hell, Porter tried to pump up Garvey's Republican opponent the same way in response but just wasn't as effective.
I figured once Pelosi endorsed him that he wouldn’t lose. even w all the baggage her political machine still has an influence
I don’t have twitter so I might not be seeing something can you point where she claims it was rigged and not just pointing out what we know? Adam Shiff spent money to have Garvey come in second. Edit missed the “rig”
Social media fatigues a lot of people, I assume. Aside from the obvious(Fox/Newmax), youve got Adin Ross, Nelks, Mcafee, etc telling the younger generation constantly to be hesitant to talk about politics because someone might get offended, push the age narratives about Biden and lies that democrats havent accomplished anything, and it spreads. I assume many others like Cenat and others that run in the same circles do the same. Cant ignore what Elon has done either
The logic of the uncommitted thing makes no sense to me. If you aren't threatening Biden with a withheld vote and therefore a lost election, what is the point of it? By definition you are leveraging a Trump victory to try to influence his behavior. You then can't also say you aren't intending a Trump victory. It's baked into the entire thing
I think it's more of a small protest to show you're unhappy about something. Same as a protest march or gathering. Doesn't mean they won't vote for Biden but it's dumb to not listen to what they are saying. "You're going to vote for me anyways so fuck you" isn't the way to go.
Fair enough. But then what is the recourse if Biden doesn't meaningfully adjust his position? Either you withhold your vote as implicitly threatened, or you vote for him in which case you are acknowledging it was an empty threat from the jump
You're basically saying being vocal about something you're unhappy about is pointless unless you just flip and vote for Trump. I disagree with that.
ultimate cycle of preying on the poor and capturing them in debt, potentially a worse tactic than company currency
Preying on the vulnerable has been pretty lucrative historically. Pay-day lenders, landlords, capitalists, slave owners, feudal lords...
