This ban mostly effects the import of asbestos products (more about this in a sec) and raw asbestos for use in the chlorine industry and new uses of asbestos.

Previously installed asbestos is already covered (sometimes not very well) by existing regulations (OSHA asbestos in construction, asbestos in general industry, etc., AHERA - asbestos in schools, ASHARA - asbestos in commercial and governmental bldgs, and NESHAP - emissions from demolition of buildings). EPA isn't saying industry has to remove all existing asbestos, just that you're now not allowed to import new asbestos. Up until now, you've been able to replace asbestos containing gaskets with new asbestos containing gaskets because asbestos in gaskets weren't specifically banned. Same with asbestos in construction adhesives, certain roofing products, etc.

Now, the devil is in the details, though. There's no one at ports of entry into this country taking bulk samples for asbestos of gaskets, or construct adhesives, or caulkings, or joint compound, or the textured paint on the bottom of kitchen sinks, etc. being imported on ships. Plus, asbestos is a naturally occurring group of minerals that are quite common (the state mineral of California used to be Serpentinite, an asbestiform mineral), and end up being quarried and used in concrete and whatnot. So, people like myself who are in the environmental health and safety industry will continue to find it when doing inspections of even brand new buildings, let alone buildings dating from pre-1980. (Plus, Trump will probably undo the ban come this time next year)

I actually fired up Maher the other night to see how bad it had gotten and was surprised it really wasn’t that bad. He tried to both sides Eric holder a few times but the majority of his monologue was talking about what a threat Trump is.

 

Maher just loses credibility on a bigger % of his views each year. He doesn’t have all dog shit views but they are a larger part of him now than say five years ago. The worst is when he has a right wing ghoul on his show or podcast. Then he tries to keep things civil with little push back and always has to agree with them about the “dangers” of wokeness. His interviews with both Elon and Bibi were some of the worst interviews I’ve ever seen.

 

Just depends on what topics he talks about. He’s always been pro democrat, but he’s also anti vax and anti Muslim so if he had a segment on those that’s when you realize he just sucks
