Yeah I believe it was sometime overnight/early AM in the US after the full Friday program was done and they decided it wasn’t repairable in time.
His going over the line was within like one of the first five turns, I saw it and immediately stopped watching his effort.
I just don't get why the team didn't tell him to back off that lap and do another flying lap the next go round. It was pretty obvious that the lap wasn't going to count.
Ferrari could have had Verstappen / Sainz and instead they're stuck with the sloooow Lecrec and Hamilton...sad!

Mind-blowing incompetence from him and the team. Watched the onboard and neither of them seemed to have a clue. Like as a driver you should have a feel for it especially if there are kerbs involved and then how is not a single person on the team watching the feed to see it all plainly like we did.
pretty sure he knew but maybe expected team to confirm and tell him to back out. Or maybe he knew he wasn’t fueled enough for another push lap. Either way he basically admitted afterwards that he doesn’t think he can find the extra time in the gap to yuki. think we are probably seeing the end of his f1 career over the next few races. Personally I’d love to see Danny ric and Bottas be the first 2 drives for the Audi team. Probably won’t happen.
RB, Ferrari, and McLaren looked the best on their long runs in FP2. Piastri was putting up times better than Perez.

My six year old son asked if we could sleep in the basement so he could watch the race. I’m a sucker and said of course. We’re in central time…still late but we do have a blizzard coming so likely no school Monday for him. I said he gets 30 minutes after it starts.
