MJF beats the entire Undisputed group 1 on 5 in a loser leaves the company handicap match and the storyline is never referenced again
If he can’t confirm something is happening with multiple people, he typically doesn’t go on record reporting it.
Tony’s shook. I dont think he asked for that, but the fact they think they need to says it all. Punk becoming enemy number one to the crowd that hijacked shows chanting his name will be hilarious to me. Hoisted by your own petard so to speak.
I don't mind it. Punk went out and shit on their company yesterday. I think a response is fine. He didn't even bury Punk, when he easily could've. If that would've happened in the Attitude Era, a PM Drunk dwarf would have had his ass speared in half tonight and torn both triceps in the process. Billionaire Ted and the Nacho Man were entertaining. I would've welcomed something like that.
I think you generally no sell a disgruntled ex employee like that, but Punk just seems to have that effect on people. Even WWE would reference him to clown him on after his UFC fights and they really never mentioned anything going on outside their world since the Monday night wars ended.
It's not like Punk cut some scathing anti AEW promo on Raw, he was on a YouTube show that doesn't even have 1M views as of right now. I get that AEW has some very online fans but it didn't seem worth addressing, at least not in that lame rah-rah manner. Like Lando said, if you're gonna address it, fight fire with fire and make it interesting.
imagine WWE starting Smackdown off with a promo like that because of something Edge or Sasha said on Jericho's podcast
Joe looked like a million bucks tonight. If he loses later this month, it'll probably be the last world title he ever holds but he looked great doing it. He's not as quick as he was a decade ago but he's still got a great presence.
Ospreay best in the world in ring plus being a shockingly great promo was bad news for Swerrve as top babyface. Ospreay and Mercedes will be the faces of the company.
Really liked that episode…other than the 20 minutes spanning from Jericho to the Acclaimed/BCG stuff. What a horrific 20-minute stretch that was. Jericho needs to get the fuck off TV for a long while is not permanently. And this Acclaimed-BCG stuff needs to end with the the quickness. The match was one of the stupidest fucking matches I have ever seen in Dynamite history. But the other matches ran from passable (women’s match) to great. Got a nice surprise turn out of Trent, really interested to see where they go with this. Gives something with some heat for OC to do and gives something interesting for Trent who deserves more than what he has been given during his AEW tenure. Promo and main event segments also ranged from good (but polarizing with the Copeland promo) to great. Really felt like we needed something to juice up the Joe vs. Swerve match at Dynasty and I have to say they did an admirable job at that. Willow got one hell of a pop for her promo, didn’t know she had mic skills like that.
That Gunn vs White match is exactly the sort of thing that should have been one segment long, ending with a brawl between the teams. In and out before the commercial break.
Match should have been five minutes top with Jay dominating it. Instead it went like 10 minutes with Billy Gunn dominating. Basically the exact opposite of what it should have been. And how the hell did the Acclaimed recover so quickly after being shown laid out cold in the back?
Those titles have done more harm than good and are a big reason why the tag division hasn't been main event level in a while, just abolish both sets of trios titles and put the focus back on tag teams only
Just finished Dynamite. That Joe/Swerve segment was so good. Super fresh matchup, both guys were excellent on the mic. Swerve doesn't need a lengthy run with the title, so building up to him vs Ospreay at All In is perfect. I think he’s my favorite character in wrestling. They've tinkered with his presentation for a couple of years now, and I'm glad they were willing to dump the things that didn't work, like Bordeaux and the guy with the face tattoos. I was thinking about who he should feud with while he has the title. They should extend the feud with Joe, lots of mileage left there. He needs a couple of signature wins before he loses it to Ospreay, so Joe, Page, Christian (that could be really fun), and Kingston (also really fun) is the list I came up with. If there's not enough time to run all those, I'd dump Page. The beauty of Swerve's character is that he's perfectly suited to play face or heel depending on the opponent. August could be a tremendous month for wrestling. All In with Ospreay/Swerve, Cole/MJF, maybe Okada/Omega? And then SummerSlam with Punk/Drew, Cody/Rock, Roman/Gunther? Both shows are on fire right now.
After everything Swerve said about being the first black champion in a young promotion to then immediately lose the title at All In with everyone knowing the deal would leave a bad taste for me.
That’s 4 months. And it solidifies him as a bona fide main eventer. If you look at the lineage of the title, that wouldn’t stand out as too short. Joe’s had it for 96 days, Mox had runs of 59, 11, and 59 days. Punk 87 days. Hangman 197. Jericho, MJF, and Omega are the only ones with lengthy reigns. No shame in losing the main event at All In to Ospreay in front of his home crowd.
If the whole world knows that you’re just holding it for Ospreay until All In, it sullies the run. You’re just a transitional token champion for the next hot white guy. My hope is that Ospreay loses at All In. That I can get behind and I think would be good for AEW.
Osperay doesn't need the belt right away, but I can't see a better time for him to win it than All In, especially if they want to crown him as the "face" of the company. Swerve only getting four months with the belt would suck, but Joe is also getting a short reign (assuming he loses it this month), and a few short reigns here and there would do the title some good. Other than freak accidents, every AEW title reign has been a long one. It's conditioning the fans not to pay attention to the title matches in the first few months of a reign.
If WWE is gonna do long dominant title runs for their major belts, AEW should zag the other direction and be the company with unpredictability, where even the biggest titles can change hands on any given Dynamite. Especially considering they don’t have a Roman or Cody or Brock who is above the rest of the roster. Right now they have a group of 8-10 guys who are on a similar level and all capable of matches the audience likes. None of them are needle movers so get people to tune in by knowing title matches (and matches in general) won't be too predictable. Joe losing to Swerve losing to Ospreay losing to MJF etc doesn’t hurt any of them.
LOL at thinking that's anything other than booking. To make someone unbeatable, you just have to make them not lose.
I’m talking about aura, superstar level presence. AEW doesn’t have that guy right now. If you wanna say that’s entirely booking then Tony Khan should fire himself because we are at a full year now worth of shitty ticket sales and declining ratings. They need to try something new
Reminds me of the era where Rock, Stone Cold, Angle, Taker, Kane, Jericho, Foley were all at the top of the card rotating reigns. One of my favorite eras because it was so unpredictable.
