Love these stat tracker threads. A great place to post cold hard facts that can’t be disputed unless you’re a deranged homer
nm That caveat is ridiculous for anyone to check but probably only like 3 players ever that would be in contention. Anthony Davis is 1
how many years will it take for the Spurs to be good again guessing not long with Wemby leading the way but good grief I did not expect to pull up the NBA standings and see the Spurs the 3rd worst team in the entire league
The league’s been around 77 years. And I bet you wouldn’t even have to go back that far where you could tell people Wemby is actually an alien, and they’d believe it.
I’m too scared to post in the nba thread but can someone explain to me why Rudy Gobert is a lock for dpoy instead of wemby? Asking from pure betting standpoint because I placed a futures for wemby a few weeks ago and the line hasn’t changed much.
He's a swat machine but, see clip above. He's still too easily abused. P much anyone can put his ass right under the hoop Also, Gobert's the best defensive player on the best defense in the NBA. Counts for something
To piggy back on that, I would say DPOY can't come from the 23rd ranked defense in the league, regardless of how gaudy the individual stats. Probably the last year for the next 8-10 that Wemby doesn't win it, so let's enjoy Rudy's final DPOY
If it were 1995 his joints would have a 4 year lifespan in the NBA before he's shuffling up and down the floor like Mt. Sabonis. We'll see just how far orthopedics has come.
I’m sure I’m jinxing my team but he’s nastily twisted his ankle 3+ times this year (including last night) and in all the games he didn’t come out and only sat like 1 total game because of it. He might just be resilient somehow.
He’s also not grinding against guys like Shaq down low, a guy like Edey is barely a first rounder. Today’s game is more favorable to his body type.
I'm an extremely nostalgic oldhead wrt the NBA, but my thought about all these "zomg he's 7ft and he can do everything" players is... so? How many players does any one team need launching threes? Does your center shooting 34% from 3 really make your team better? Wolves are my team. This has been my critique of KAT for a long time. A big man who's only marginally good at big man stuff.
You literally can't have too many shooters. The way defense is played now your one non-shooter will be ignored by defenses, which lets that players man sag into the paint, and clog up everything else. Your center being able to draw the opposing center out of the paint where he isn't defending the rim is doubly advantageous.
Admittedly, I've only watched a couple Spurs games this year, both were early season. Think he's developed a lot since then. Also, I realize 34% from 3 isn't the same thing player to player. Wemby doesn't seem the type that's launching 3s with reckless abandon, wasting all manner of other scoring opportunities.
He chucks 2-3 3’s a game outside the structure of the offense. It’s my only partial gripe. He also has had wild swings in his percentages from month to month. In February he shot over 40%. But he has improved tremendously wrt his handles and dealing with double teams already. I think the scariest thing about him is how much better he’s gotten throughout the season in these areas. He brings the ball up the court a ton now and initiates the offense.
lots of different concepts but a main takeaway from the most recent one is how removing defenders from the paint by replacing plodding big men who clog up the lane who only offer a threat of easy to defend post ups with shooters or guys who move the ball effectively makes teams much more difficult to defend an even tl;dr is try to find an nba offense today that is running a simple post up offense. It doesn’t exist.
skill, athleticism, and off-ball motion over how many guys can you put your shoulder through as you try to get to the rim or settle for a step back 16 footer?
