man who the hell knows what that final 4 run will do for portal opportunities. projecting next year's roster at this point seems silly.
I like that write up from The Athletic but a couple of points : Stevenson was considered a disappointment until he had a big game against Clemson. Looks like he'll be fantastic moving forward but everyone was bitching about him up until then or at least saying he had not met lofty expectations for a freshmen. Wague was not good, never saw him do much other than detract from the team when he was on the court. And Pringle was very inconsistent and you could argue he was mediocre all things considered. Really excited to see Reid and Sherrell. I'd guess they might take some minutes away from Pringle ? Or does Pringle have his own niche at this point as a "bruiser" as this article puts it that is distinguishable from a skilled "rim runner."
I wouldn't be surprised if Pringle left tbqh. Seems like a lot of issues/tension there even though publicly they say the right things. I definitely think an athletic, shot blocking C is a big portal need. Secondary only to a starting PG as a need even if Pringle does come back.
Stevenson was disappointing but he was also a 17 year old true freshman. The staff consistently talked about how happy they were with him and his growth and then it clicked in the tournament (on both ends). Wague was a last minute Band-Aid for our lack of depth at the 5. I'd be pretty surprised if he's back next year. Pringle was very good the last month of the season. I think we've all learned that having an old strong big is a huge plus, because freshmen bigs generally are going struggle with physicality against certain opponents. However, the whole "situation" throughout the year makes you wonder where the relationship is. If he leaves you have to bring in a replacement who fits the mold, though. Can't just rely on the freshmen.
The initial scuttlebutt was the big from Rutgers was 100% going to St. Johns but it's interesting that hasn't happened yet. Wonder if we have a legit shot there?
Portal guys who fit the following criteria vs Top 250 opponents > 6'10 or taller > 25% mins > 15% def reb rate > 5% block rate > 65% close 2 FG% > 60% FT % * Vlad Goldin (FAU) (probably going to Michigan) * Amari Williams (Drexel) (visiting Indiana, St Johns, Creighton, Florida) * Brandon Garrison (Oklahoma St) (no visits noted) * Jamille Reynolds (Cincinnati) (no visits noted)
He wasn't early on but he defended his ass off in the tournament. Seemed to figure out how to use his length better. It was a pretty wild light switch to see get flipped.
Any word on Brandon Garrison? Former 6'11" McDonalds All-American, just finished his freshman year at Oklahoma St and hit the portal. Looks very long and athletic and a possible fit for the C/Dunker spot.
Count me in on wanting Pringle back with a little help. He is so good at what he does when he's dialed in and we don't go on that run without him. He completely punked out those white bitches for Clemson.
odins totally realistic 24/25 roster (dpc refers to the group of dioubate, parker, and cosby) sears/transfer pg nelson/raynaud/transfer 4 griffen/dpc/transfer wing wrightsell walters stevenson mallette omoruyi/ballo/goldin dpc/transfer wing/utility cunningham reid sherrell perry/brown/transfer pg/dpc
It's a crazy world when NIL is a much bigger financial emphasis for a head coach than a derelict arena. I wonder if the monthly subscription option from Yea Alabama has generated a lot of NIL from middle class folks instead of relying on super rich people exclusively.
I think the argument for bringing him back would also be that in some ways he set the tone for the entire team, he brought much needed physicality, and he was the emotional galvanizer or conduit. He brought the juice. Devil's advocate : but was the juice worth the squeeze with all his shenanigans?
And the fact that we really don't seem to know what the shenanigans were, so it's hard to know if they're annoying things the staff things they can get past or the sorts of things that accumulate into not wanting to deal with it anymore.
Watched him a decent bit this year. Extremely athletic, good rebounder, and has some decent post moves. Team was shit this year because Boyton was an awful coach but he stood out as a freshman. Think he’s going to have a really good career and would fit in great in Oats system
So we lived through the greatest era of Alabama football ever (also the greatest era of college football of any school ever) and now the greatest era of Alabama basketball. We are pretty spoiled.
Can more players enter the portal or has the deadline passed? Picking are a little slim at PG. That Harvard kid, Mack, would be very nice but idk beyond that.
Gotta say, that news on the rb from Washington is at minimum a very bad look for DeBoer. Very disappointing.
Portal guys who fit the following criteria > PG > 35% mins > 20% Assist Rate > 2.0 Assist/TO rate > 35% 3PT% > 75% FT% > 50% FG% at the rim 2 > 50 3PT Attempts > 2% steal rate * Julian Larry (Indiana State) * Jaeden Zackery (Boston College) * Kylan Boswell (Arizona) * Tre Donaldson (Auburn) Larry coming from a program with similar offensive principles, and the fact that he's 6-3, would definitely be interesting.
if you know enough of the situation to suspend him i don’t know how you let him play again weeks later - unless you don’t care about women. that article made me sick to my stomach. unfortunately our patriarchal society encodes this level of aggression and entitlement into men and then, often up to the highest levels of power, rewards or excuses the anti-social behaviors that follow
My guess is they suspended him for the title game, then he didn't get charged so the coaches thought they were in the clear and let him play.
That's a one off case. At least they tried to do the right thing until a court stepped in. It doesn't sound like UW/DeBoer did. There's no way to spin it than it just looks really bad. Maybe there's more to it that the article didn't mention but the article by itself looks really bad. Sitting him for the P12 game and then playing him in the playoff is weird, hope someone asks him about it and he gives a legit answer.
Is it possible like i am a bammer said that the cops just didn’t believe the first girl until the second girl came forward?
wish him the best. Clearly our guys thought highly of him all year. Players and staff. Wish he would’ve stuck around but we’re probably going to go heavy portaling for a bit
Another thing this year proved is Oats definitely knows how to build his roster. He’s earned my trust in making these decisions and finding the right replacement.
My total guess would be that the staff decided (a) Dioubate couldn't turn into a shooter quick enough and (b) Walters was never going to be able to do things other than spot up shoot well enough. I can't imagine either would want out on their own.
I definitely don't see Walters going anywhere, and Dioubate would surprise me too. I think Wague and Cosby are the mostly likely departures
I don’t know Walters is pretty athletic, I think there’s some room for improvement, that would surprise me
Parker had a similar video make the rounds recently. I'm thinking these kinds of posts are essentially portal marketing, so it seems like Pringle may be on the move as well:
Dioubate has room for growth. I said it all year. He reminds me so much of young herb but a little more offensively gifted. Not much. But a little. Don’t know that he will ever be a good enough shooter to play major minutes for us but I do love his toughness and hustle. Dude fights well above his size down low. But id understand his departure if he did. Walters is one that would confuse me. He fits the system. He’s an Alabama kid. Showed toughness at the end of the year. He’s young and needs time to bulk and improve but he seems like a good fit for our system.
