Chuck was shouting out Roman and telling people to acknowledge him. One of their hockey analysts said he was going to check out AEW to see Pat McAfee. also, I have no idea if this is true, but I have seen it mentioned that they burnt their bridge with Shaq because of QT Marshall of all people.
they keep bringing in these big signings to be aww shucks babyfaces which don’t suit them. They brought Cole in and made him heel right away and it was great
Yes and no. Okada was a heel from day one. Ospreay is actually perfectly suited to be a face. In fact, the biggest face. Sasha is the only real miss imo.
he's great at marketing to dudes on message boards because that's what he is. regular people, not so much.
I think they just debuted her too early if she’s not fighting until the end of May. Also going for the TBS belt is beneath her status at the moment.
Agreed. Maybe if Jade was still there and had the title but nobody gives a shit about her feuding with Julia Hart and company.
Last I heard she was hurt. Glad she’s back since half the women’s division seems to be to on the shelf with injuries.
Aside from the horrendous theme, the CEO thing doesn't click for me because A. it's the "What's (WWE name but slightly altered) doing here in the Impact Zone??" meme personified going from "The Boss" to "The CEO" B. The Young Bucks are doing a gimmick based on them being ACTUAL EVPs where they are called the EVPs on screen and do the "EVP Trigger" as their finisher, so someone called the CEO based on nothing seems kinda lame in comparison to that
Adding one of the best women's wrestlers in the world to a roster that has produced exceedingly few good women's matches and then saying she won't stand out is quite the take. Especially when talent that has held belts or been regularly featured at some points includes notably poor to average wrestlers like Britt Baker, Jade, Saraya, Ruby Soho, Julia Hart, Skye Blue, Anna Jay, Abadon, and Marina Shafir.
Like you can count on two hands (and I'm being generous there in saying it takes more than one hand) the # of high quality women's matches in AEW that have happened over the last 365 days that AEW has produced that didn't feature a non-signed talent (like the Storm-AZM match from this weekend, for example).
With as stacked as the AEW men's roster is, Drew will stand out less on the men's roster than Mercedes will on the women's roster.
Mentioning the worst wrestlers in a promotion doesn't make your point. She's making as much as any man in AEW. So I'm comparing her in ring ability to any person in the company. She's good not great and shouldn't be paid like a top act in AEW.
Banks/Mone has always been a better heel. In time, she'll be a heel again. Until then, she's just there.
lol at saying she's not a great wrestler. You don't have to just make up shit now to try to prove your point.
I know but all I’m saying is it doesn’t need to be framed like that. If he wants to just give out blank checks to as many wrestlers as possible then all power to them. This is just more like LIV Golf where it’s not about comparing the contracts as much as it is just spending to stack a roster. And like LIV that still doesn’t necessarily make the actual product interesting
That's subjective. Where would she rank as a top in ring performer in AEW? Top 5? Top 10? Top 15? If your answer isn't Top 10, then she's good not great. That's not a knock. More a testament of how many GREAT wrestlers there are in AEW.
I don't care about her ROI. I'm not invested financially in AEW nor am I making any money off of it. and there is no salary or roster cap so it's like signing her means that's one less person that can be signed.
Good Lord I don’t know how I fell into this conversation. My only point was she sucks and isn’t worth the money they’re paying her. Money much better used to bring in talent that’s actually interesting. Or on a creative team.
Mercedes is good in the ring, has great heel charisma/psychology, and can’t cut a good promo whether face/heel.
But is it really in this case? Going pubic is the last thing TK should want with how he wants AEW to be. He'd be crucified until the end of time by shareholders for spending hundreds of thousands to millions just on entrance music like Final Countdown for Danielson
Yeah TK isn't taking AEW public anytime soon. Vince took 15 years (more or less) before going public, and it was considered one of the most surprising moves in business, for something as gutter as pro wrestling to become a publically traded company.
I won't pretend to know how all this shit works but I imagine shareholders would try to find a way to force TK out as soon as they could if he didn't drastically change how he operated things. He doesn't run that company with a capitalistic, money hungry mindset.
I think its entirely way to early to claim that. Apparently she's not medically cleared but the made the debut anyway. That's what Shoe and Kaz said on a podcast. Once she gets in the ring people won't feel like she's a bad hire, because she's the best female wrestler in the world.
Like letting Punk go YouTube for the entire world to see trashing the company with TK just letting him go on and on would have the shareholders saying "that doesn't work for me, brother" Not controlling the locker room and that being a big reason leading to Punk getting fired - same "Wasting" money on licensed entrance music - same Keeping dozens of talent under guaranteed contract and never using them when industry standard is to cut bait when it makes sense - same Signing a million talents with no plan what to do with them - same Paying all those travel related expenses when no other wrestling company does that - same Nonsensical arena booking decisions - same Lack of marketing/promoting - same Using AEW in any capacity to prop up ROH - same, unless he officially turned it into their NXT Lord knows what else, that's just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head
there has been speculation for a long time that the NBA crew are some big time assholes from time to time. If that has any truth, you add that to the reaction from twitter... it makes sense they haven't gone back to that well.
The guy answered a question about releasing talent due to budget cuts by bragging about spending a years salary for a wrestler to license a Skynyrd song for ROH. Money isn’t real to him.
Lots of hidden sexism in this post... Who gives a fuck what she's paid? She's worth what shes getting because TK said she's worth it. End of story. TK has endless amounts of cash, the argument of money better spent elsewhere is also stupid because he has no restrictions on the money. He just signed Mone, Will, Okada and didn't blink an eye. By the sound of his recent interview he's almost more into beating out WWE for talent then what he puts out in the ring.
Shut the fuck up with that. There’s no sexism. I don’t think she’s very good and certainly not worth what she’s being paid. I also don’t think the Machine Guns were worth signing. There’s tons of people I think they shouldn’t have signed. Don’t come at me like that.
I'm just passing along the info that I heard. Punk said on Ariel's show he could wrestle but was told by WWE medical he's not cleared. He got physical at Mania. Maybe she's injured, maybe she's not. TK does a ton of stupid shit... not letting the best female wrestler in the world wrestle seems to something that might top them all.
How many male wrestlers have you pointed the ROI on? It just Sasha that ROI means something to you? Okada and Will are active in ring right now and ratings and ticket sales blow... Why are you not up in arms about ROI for them? Nobody gives a fuck about the Motor City Machine Guns... And to claim she's not very good when she's largely been considered a top 3 female wrestler in the world her entire career is just a fucking fool take.
WWE was backing up a Brink's truck for her too, enough to make her the highest paid woman in the industry, just not as much as AEW is.
Seriously? People have been criticizing Tony for the ROI on a ton of guys he's signed for years. It was also a huge part of one of the biggest promos in the history of the company when MJF "quit".
How do you know how good of wrestler Grayson Waller is if you claim you only watch WWE PLE's and he's only ever wrestled on 3 of them, 2 of which were battle royals
