Don’t know how PoE devs have any chance of positively following up what just happened with the 3.23 Affliction league (people figured out ways to drop unprecedented fucking mountains of loot with stacking magic find and wisps). They usually attempt to restrict player power or the in game economy in a drastic backtrack when things get that out of hand. New 3.24 league announcement stream starts in 10min.

I want a 4090, lol. But would require a completely new build.

The closest microcenter to me is the one opening in charlotte in may. They had some promo to sign up for that i did so now i get in 2 days before the general public and I'm imagine I'm going to feel like Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate factory since I've never been in one before.

Definitely buying a brand new build.

Every Acer computer I have had has been abysmal, monitors have been great.

I guess my question is why do you want a gaming PC? Because at the sub 1k specs, getting a mobile 4050 is a graphics card in name only.

I have found spending a little more and being a stickler about specs makes your money go a little further by future proofing the machine for a bit.

And then expounding on that its all about the cooling

I have a work laptop, and my personal computing needs are fairly low demand in terms of the gaming I do.

Games I’m currently playing are starting to put too much demand on my desktop that I built ~8yrs ago (intel core i5 with GTX 960) with the intention of upgrading as necessary. At this point, it’s too far behind to upgrade when I can buy a prebuilt.

I’ve decided that I just don’t upgrade periodically. So, laptop seems to be the solution for simplicity, clean aesthetic, and the rare occasion when I take it to my buddy’s place and dock to one of his monitors to game.

Also, prices for laptops seem to have come down significantly.

Yeah I get you with work laptop and gaming laptop.

The best bang for my buck I've purchased is an MSI stealth, although the most recent one I got had some cooling issues (I ended up giving it to my sister so she could run AutoCAD on it instead of her dell from 2006). I liked the form factor, portability, power and battery life and I think it was 1700-1800.

I just recently splurged and got the ROG strix scar and have been happy with it as a "desktop replacement." Still a little bulky and fans are not the quietest.

Lots of people on reddit swear by Lenovo Legion but every lenovo pc I have had (non gaming) has been a piece of shit.

Just from a cursory search it seems like you could get something with an i7/4070 for around 1300 but I'm not sure how tight your budget is

I'm artificially limiting my budget because I don't need a ton of processing power.

As an example, my most played games in the past calendar year are:
    • Remnant: From the Ashes
    • Finalo Fantasy VI
    • Divinity: Original Sin 2
    • The Ascent
    • Borderlands 3
    • Destiny 2
Beyond that it's just basic Microsoft office work, web browsing, and YouTube.

yeah I get you. I'd probably try and land in that 1000-1300 range because sometimes these budget gaming laptops seem like shit but idk.

I stick to reddit reviews/threads because those people test and argue the fuck out of everything

Yeah both of those are better on paper than the first link, as they have more juice and cost less. Like the above user said, I would avoid Acer as a brand though.

ASUS is a well regarded brand and that should be a very good cpu + gpu combo. I've played 0 of those games though to know how many fps you'll get though. I cannot imagine it being anything less than solid/stable, even if it's not elite or anywhere near bleeding edge.

If you think that you’ll play anything more recent/more demanding then I’d recommend getting a gpu with more than 8 gb of vram.

I know it’s not possible on 1k or less, but I was just throwing that out there.

Given that I'm going to ride this thing for 8+ years, I'll splurge per your recommendation and that of Det. Frank Bullitt and Leeroy Jenkins!

    > 8GB VRAM
    ≥ Intel i7
    ≥ NVIDIA 4070
    Consider ASUS, avoid Acer

Do you guys have feelings towards AMD Ryzen?

I'm an intel guy but a modern ryzen chip will be absolutely fine as long as you don't go with the super low power ones (usually denoted by a U in the model name), but one of those is unlikely to be paired with a 4070 or higher.

I am also an intel guy but I have no real reason to be.

Supposedly AMD performs just as well on single core stuff but idk.

I think i7 or i9 (pricey) plus a 4070 should last you a while (not sure about 8 years, I'm thinking more 4ish years)

I'd say Asus, MSI, Lenovo (internet loves), Razer (the macbook of gaming laptops)

I've had an AMD Ryzen 3700X for 5-6 years combined with a 2070super and I've never had any issues with either of them. I'm buying a new system next month when the microcenter in Charlotte opens.

i built my rig late 2016. the 1070 is still going strong and works fine, definitely some issues keeping up with current games but not enough to look into a rebuild until now. the cpu though, i ended up replacing after 6 years. so imo, 8+ years from a build isn't totally unreasonable if you go big initially.

You could get a mini atx format pc and still fit in most modern GPUs. There are smaller formats than that but I don't know much about them.
