LaPorta and Jamo switching numbers? Realize you can't get theirs, yet guys like malcolm rodriguez are available
debating who to buy. I think I’m going St Brown. Wish they would get his extension worked out before I buy and something weird happens with that and he’s not a Lion
Dummy me bought an ARSB last year. Think I may get a Sewell one, but going to wait a week and see who they draft. The initial blue Sewell are already sold out
I’m gonna get a black jersey that says Bust on the back, but I won’t have any number included. That way I can write it Vin’s bust for that week.
Definitely an improvement all around. Only thing that still looks rough is the helmet stripe on the silver helmet.
Whites with the white pants and blacks with the blue pants look better than their standard combinations. Blue shouldn't be worn with anything but silver
I was vehemently against black, but those are probably my favorite of the bunch. Really love the new look.
I want an alternate white uniform that says “Lions” in the old classic font instead of “Detroit”, but they did a good job overall.
alright boys. Time to talk draft. How are we going to obtain our future bust with the 1st pick. Trade up, trade down, stay at 29? And what position?
I kinda think we trade out of the first round. But I’m gonna say our future bust is a DE. Someone like Chop Robinson is a prime bust candidate. I think he’s really good and would be fine with that pick, but it feels like those uber athletic guys without the actual production numbers do tend to bust pretty often.
Trade back to someone looking to draft Penix (New England) and then pick an IOL at 34 for our first bust.
I think we're trading up and taking a corner in the first. Moving either our 2nd or 3rd rounder could get us into somewhere between the 17-21 range. I could see us doing something like trading 29, 61 and 73 to Miami for 21 and 55. Miami doesn't have a 3 or 4. We would be moving up in each of the rounds. It's almost identical in terms of the trade chart points.
I predict we trade 29 — just not sure if it’s to move up or down. I think no matter what we do, the first player we take is on offense. I feel like a guy like Brian Thomas is someone we might trade up for.
We are expecting very different things. I can see us taking a WR with a day 2 pick, but I would be shocked if we picked one in the first, and much more so if we traded up for one.
I know everyone wants Detroit to draft a DB but I gotta see it to believe it at this point. I get the sense what the organization wants out of a DB is very specific and eliminates a lot of candidates that otherwise might make sense. I also think there is enough buzz around us wanting a bigger WR that it’s probably legit.
I really hope you're wrong about DBs because it seems like "wanting to play man-to-man every play" makes talent necessary at the corner spots.
They were obviously gonna take Witherspoon last year and when he was taken by Seattle they pivoted by trading down and taking an RB with other DBs available. And that was with a worse DB room than we have today. I just think at 29 those kind of DBs aren’t going to be available.
I think the standard for what you might look for in a CB at 6, 12 or 18 is different from what you might look for at 29. This is a weird draft for CBs considering almost all of the ones after the top 3-4 ran slower than you'd want (in some cases, much slower). And that has me nervous that we might not find someone we want there. But that's also why I think we could move up for someone like Mitchell or Arnold if they're still on the board in the late teens/early 20s. And why I'll be pissed off if McKinstry is on the board at 29 and we pass on him.
I don’t disagree. First round DB might also be the riskiest non QB players to draft. That’s probably part of the calculus of any trade up.
Agreed. Especially in their rookie seasons. I don't have expectations that we're drafting someone who is going to be awesome. I'm just kind of tired of having zero depth and getting stuck starting Kindle Vildor types. At some point you need to at least try to draft someone there. Pretty sure you and I were having the exact same convo about Mayhew a decade ago with his nonsense about only drafting CBs who run sub-4.4 or whatever.
Reading more about this class and it really feels like there just isn’t much depth once you get out of the fourth round. It makes me wonder if we might get ultra aggressive trying to move up for an actual playmaker at the risk of adding quantity.
Looking at a list of our reported visits, edge, wr, dt and cb seem to be the priority 52 names we've visited have been reported between top 30, local and combine 16 DB (12 cb 4 s) 10 Edge 8 WR 8 DT That's 42/52 names at 4 positions. (1 QB, 2 RB, 4 OL and 3 LB rounding it out, with 6/10 being local visits)
Just looking at some of that list, Michael Hall is a really interesting guy potentially on day 2, IMO. Same premise as the edge rushers people are giving us in the first three picks in many ways.
I'm pretty sure we've drafted at least one guy if not more we haven't interviewed in each of last few drafts, but the focus on certain positions is what draws my eye more
I know they’re going to draft a scUM player, and I’ve decided I want it to be Roman Wilson no further questions
I want Newton but not sure how redundant he becomes with Reader. For whatever reason don’t really want Kool-aid or chop (Have right to reverse my thoughts if we draft them and I read any good info about them)
There is not a prospect I really want with our first round pick. There are some guys I'd trade up for, and some guys I like but could get later. So I guess that means I want us to trade the pick up or down
Graham Barton was the pick for Twentyman in his mock draft today. He's probably the one OL I wouldn't have to talk myself into in the first round if we made that pick. The Athletic guys (Baumgardner, Pouncey and Burke) did a video mock that had us trading down and taking Ladd McConkey in the early second round. That would make me sad.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Holmes comments after the draft last year, about get their guys in the first and getting the hell out of there. I think we are going to trade up. I don’t know how far we will go, but I think we go big to land a true difference maker, especially if these edge guys fall down the board.
I've thought the same for a little bit, but I've seen several stories bringing up teams making calls about moving up and we have not been one of them mentioned. Not sure what to believe with that stuff. It's such a weird first round with all the QBs, OTs and WRs that it's hard to really know how the defensive picks are really going to shake out. Seems like almost there's only a couple defensive players who are true locks to go in the top 20. Kind of hard to know exactly who you would need to move up for, or how high you need to go to get them.
