Looking forward to this one, the first two were really good! ‘Horror In The High Desert 3: Firewatch’ Unnamed Footage Festival Review: Horror Edging At Its Finest https://www.dreadcentral.com/review...-festival-review-horror-edging-at-its-finest/
which one is that? The one I’m looking forward to is the one from the serial killer’s POV Violet Nature
Okay, my month (and a bit) of horror has come to an end with Abigail, so here's how I rated them: 1) Immaculate - surprisingly the best of them. A nice tight film with great performances from the leads and some real creepiness throughout. Most importantly, it stuck the landing - last half hour is great. 7.5/10 2) Abigail - good but not great. Cool concept but got a bit lost at times. Loved the Abigail character- she was the best thing in the movie and outperformed some of the adults. 7/10 3) Late Night with the Devil - I was so looking forward to this but it was a bit of a let down. One of the longest 90 minute films I've seen - took forever to get going. Stylish as hell and a crazy ending, but not enough substance. 6.5/10 4) The Worst Omen - should have gone with my first instinct and avoided it. Two boring hours of my life I won't get back. And the ending... "look, this ties into The Omen. See? Robert Thorne! And the kid's called Damien. Ooooh!". And the surprise twist? WTF?? 5/10 and I'm being generous.
I came away thinking this should have been a single episode of an anthology series. I was also disappointed in the setup of the movie at the beginning telling us that we were about to watch actual footage of what took place, only for the ending to not at all follow that setup Spoiler Everything that he went through at the end could have been presented with us still being the viewer of the footage instead of somehow being able to enter his mind and view what he was going through. He could have went through all of that while roaming the set and appearing to lose his mind, with the chaos of what was going on in the audience and on set happening around him .
I thought Late Night was fantastic all the way through. Didn't feel like it dragged on to me at all. Big fan.
Also, subscribed to Shudder just for that, so hit me up with anything else on there I should check out.
It's an excellent premise and a lot of fun - some acting and pacing issues were the only problem for me. But some of you might not get as hung up on it as me.
Late Night with the Devil was great, if you struggled to focus on a 90 min movie of that quality I don't know what to say
I watched Late Night with the Devil last night. It does take a while to get to the spooky business, but it’s actually pretty scary once it does. Whatever we’re calling the 2024 version of Joss Whedon speak will always annoy me and a lot of the performances are community theater-tier (looking at you skeptic and sleazy producer guy), but good for modern horror.
I haven't seen anyone say they "struggled to focus", including me. I felt it was 80 minutes of build-up for a conclusion that didn't quite work and that it dragged. Very different things, but, you know.
I didn't struggle with focus and I didn't even say I disliked it. My big hangup was that I didn't understand how the viewer was able to see what the main character was seeing. It was a great take on the found footage style that they abandoned at the end. I really loved the setting and the idea of an on-air exorcism/conjuring. 6.5 or 7 for me.
I do agree with this. I would've rather seen what was happening in the studio than what was happening in his head. I preferred the first 80 minutes over the last 10 honestly.
Okay I guess I’m gonna be in the minority but I didn’t think Late Night with the Devil was scary at all. It was all build up for a WTF ending. I might need to rewatch it because I watched last night after the fight and I’d consumed some adult beverages. It was a good movie I enjoyed it but didn’t find it particularly scary.
Wasn't a fan of that weird ass ending for Late Night with the Devil, but I still very much enjoyed that movie.
It wasn't - I was fairly underwhelmed in that department. Probably part of the reason I didn't rate it a little higher like some.
My post was framed in a dickish way, I should have just said I liked it and was surprised people did not enjoy it as much as I did. My bad, everyone has their own opinions on whatever and that is fine
Can't say I loved Immaculate. Wish we could have gotten more explanation and backstory. Felt rushed to me at 90 min, wish it had been a little longer and more drawn out.
It's not perfect but I was just glad to get a nice, tight movie that didn't drag at all and had a cracker of an ending. And I can't stop thinking about the catacombs scene - I was really starting to get squirmy and uncomfortable there.
I do love a good catacomb scene, I think my favorite is still As Above, So Below, albeit the entire movie was in the catacombs
As do I, but like I posted previously, there ain't no way in hell my local multiplex is showing this fucker.
I did not realize this isn’t getting a large opening. And now I’m sad after searching and don’t show anything here in town.
I went to Fandango to see if it was listed as my local theater will have their new releases posted earlier on the schedule than other stuff, but they don't have any new releases posted past a couple of weeks from today. Where did you look to see if it was showing near you?
Maybe word of mouth might get it into more cinemas, but I'm very doubtful it'll have a theatre release in Australia at all. If it's not commercial, the bigger houses don't even touch horror - hell, it took nearly an extra year for us to get Pearl, even after the success of X.
I just did a google search and looked through everything near me. Fandango and other theaters websites. A screener website I use to see early movies had it listed back in January. I hope I’m just missing it or it’s too early for ticket sales.
