I’d take the Florida teams over both of those teams going forward. Meaning, I think the Florida teams are better. Best case for the Metro winner is winner of Toronto/Boston makes the ECF.
I rank the Atlantic Florida Toronto Boston/Tampa Tampa just doesn't have the depth anymore. If you can contain the Point line, you have a massive advantage everywhere except in net.
Slightly OT but Blackburn and DJ on their pod bring up something I was thinking about as well. PK is so disappointing as an analyst because it’s plainly obvious that he doesn’t really watch hockey. He still brings up way outdated tropes about teams all the time.
Stop our top line and stay out of the box and you’ll win the series easily. Going to be really awesome tonight that two of our d-men should be playing in the AHL playoffs instead of the NHL’s.
funny you quoted that guy. know him IRL. And yeah, the performances from the Hurricanes and Golden Knights twitter went from cheeky and fun to cringe very fast.
yeah I went to the carolina account to watch highlights of their comeback. I know vegas and carolina have spicy official accounts, but it felt pretty lame reading it.
I muted both of them. I’ll catch highlights from one of the people that cover team. Vegas is fucking annoying rubbing the fact that they did what they did in everyone’s faces with the laughing emoji every 15 mins. Carolina is actually embarrassing
There was a period where that stuff was funny and edgy but not sure anyone asks for it anymore. Not sure who it’s for nowadays
social media is already full of assholes. if you can be fortunate enough to control an account with million+ followers, you should probably try to act normal.
this isn't a rogue intern like some people believe. it's a systemic marketing approach that's been covered in dozens if not hundreds of meetings to build a brand identity. carolina's accounts have been like this since they were a shit team
that's obvious. but if all you do is act like that, it takes away the joy of when a team account actually steps out of its normal posting to rub it in an opponent's face. it has jumped the shark. maybe they'll correct it over the next hundred meetings
there's being funny and poking fun at the opponent, but when every post is over the top shit you'd expect out of a 12 year old playing COD, it gets old fast.
If you post like 1 funny picture after a w that makes sense. If you’re an annoying fuck for 3 hours straight no one will find that funny except pre teen kids and even they probably think it gets old after a while. Terrible marketing strategy
This. Posting the crying Marchand meme when you knock them out of the playoffs, funny. Posting the crying marchand win 200 different ways after a regular season win is lame as shit.
doubtful. I consulted for two teams, both with bigger followings than the canes in other sports. one wanted to be an uptight professional organization, the other wanted to be like the canes (arguably even worse). it's an entire team mentality thing with dozens of people involved. none of you are the target audience, they don't care that you think it's cringe
even younger kids are talking about how cringe it is. And all adults know it’s cringe so I’m curious who exactly is their target audience now? Grown men with an underdeveloped frontal lobe?
The short version of it is that there's a reasonably common way of thinking among front offices that creating passionate fans is more important than getting new casual fans This sort of posting is designed to embolden Canes fans to go from casual to "us against the world." They love controversy (remember "bunch of jerks" and "hockey can't work in the south"). The thought process is that on Twitter, the people who will see 95% of your content already follow you and acting like a fan will endear you to your fanbase and turn them into more passionate fans. other mediums are more tame, because you're more likely to reach other audiences there You see it in many other places (VGK leaning into being cap circumventers, Astros not apologizing for cheating, etc). If you make fans more passionate about them being an in-group and others out to get us, they buy in at a higher rate. They're happy you think it's cringe, it only makes it more valuable the more you complain See also: Hitler, Adolf; Trump, Donald
There certainly is a reason both of these fan bases are at the bottom of social media rankings so i guess you’re right in a sense but some of their fans even hate it lol. Vegas definitely gets reactions from fans. Mainly oilers fans for whatever reason? But i saw at least 10 people tell the person that admins that one to kill themselves before i got tired of seeing it on my feed entirely and muted the acct
It's a risk/reward thing. Do the fans who hate it actually spend less because they don't like their twitter account? If you have 5 causal fans and you can make 4 of them hate you and 1 of them a season ticket member did make or lose money?
I’m just glad all of the teams i like are fairly moderate because I’d hate to have to mute my own team
this is honestly facinating and makes all the sense in the world. Who cares if the masses hate you as long as you convert just 1% from casual to diehard.
It is, it's awful and made me quit social media almost entirely after working with those two teams though For the record the ones who don't do it, aren't doing it out of some moral compass, they have their own reasons. The other team I consulted for had snootiness as their brand. They tried for a year to not even mention certain opponents by name (ie they'd say "big night in Raleigh" or "successful business trip" instead of ever even saying the word "Canes"). Why? Because they thought they'd make more money acting like a big swinging dick It's all money, everything always is
i was surprised he succeeded first year. Man flyers fans hate him. I think it’d be good for them they should’ve been better than they were and beniers regressed big time
Yeah I think last year was a bit of a fluke. No idea how they took out the Avs (granted, they were dealing with injuries) and took Dallas to 7 games. Hoping the Beniers thing is a sophomore slump and not a trend.
Much bigger own completely ignoring the stupid shit that the other team does and posting a meme that says something like L you fucking bozos than dump posting through it
About 5 min in and no one has gotten close to a shot on goal. Dont even know if there’s been an attempt
