Very odd texts for grad courses in micro. MWG, Kreps' Micro Theory, Jehle Reny, and Varian, in that order, are pretty much the only micro texts worth reading.

MWG is the best economics text you can find
Kreps has a better treatment of game theory
Jehle/Reny is more accessible and provides good intuition but the proofs are not very well done.
Varian is a very good bridge between undergrad and grad school.

My first Micro professor was obsessed with Hal Varian, I'm shocked we didn't use his books.

I own both of Varian’s books. I havent read his intermediate book. I was given/stole/borrowed and never gave back a copy years ago. Ive skimmed it and it seems to be a fine intermediate book. I don’t know how I feel about his Analysis book. I like the wide range of subject matter, the concise chapters, and the availability of solved problems. However, some chapters seem very strange and out of place. For example, the chapter on econometrics; I don’t know what purpose that serves. It’s impossible to do justice to a subject so broad with only a ~25 page introductory chapter.

Like I said, it’s a good bridge between undergrad and grad school. You can get by with a just a little vector calc and linear algebra. No real analysis is needed, which is equivalent to saying that the books lack rigour.

Some free books that I like can be found here: http://books.osborne.economics.utoronto.ca/
    Rubinstein’s lecture notes are good.
Woody , If you havent already read “A course in game theory “ I highly suggest it. One of, if not the best game theory books

Yeah it's out. I would be :fap: with excitement but books 5-7 sucked and ruined a lot of my enthusiasm for the series. We'll see though. Think I'm gonna start it at lunch and report back

Just bought it for the Kindle. The main selling point that got me is it's Roland talking about his past again...which is a subject that fascinated the fuck out of me!!!

According to the Kindle, I'm 26% through. So far I like it, it's amazing how I slipped right back into the familiarity with the lingo...do you kennit? Anyways, It's odd to hear Roland's tale in 1st person because I'm used to the third person format but like I said, I'm digging it. The only real beef I have with it so far and its hardly worth mentioning, but I didn't like how when Bix mentioned if they saw Andy tell him ....and then King procedes to say something along the lines of well they did eventually meet Andy but that was later...Felt like that aside was kinda unnecessary and if this book is suppsed to be DT:4.5, it didn't really fit because it comes with what I perceived to be a nod and a wink.

Yeah I wonder if he did that bc his publisher told him to or something...I notice he went out of his way in the preface to set up the story for someone who had never ready any of the other Dark Tower books.

I bought that when it came out but lost interest when it came to all the finance stuff with the Gettys and the seemingly endless list of who used to work for who. I just need to skip to the late 80s - early 90s part which was the best era of ESPN :twocents:

Just finishing the third book of Kim Stanley Robinson's Forty Signs of Rain trilogy. Solid enviro-apocalyptic story without being overly eco-preachy. Cormac McCarthy's The Road cued up next on the Kindle. Must be in kind of an end-times mode.

Poking my way through GoT for the umpteenth time kind of as the series goes in order to gauge how it varies from the books.

got 120 pages into The Brothers Karamazov this afternoon after passing out the first couple times I started it a few years ago

it's going to be better than The Idiot, Crime and Punishment, and Demons/The Devils....really excited to get deeper into it

    time well spent

Probably the GOAT epic fantasy series...certainly the best for grown men.

I recall this friend of mine, when I told him I was re-reading the series before the show started, mocked me for reading "that Dungeons & Dragons shit". I told him, well...yeah, there's dungeons and there's dragons, but it's really good :crossedarms:. Then he saw the show, read the books, and now he's all "GoT is awesome".

    :cheesy:

Celemo , starting to really get into the story but it sucks cause I can tell he's about to veer off the main story to tell this Wind through the Keyhole story. Hope it isn't too boring. Shit was getting real after they investigated that ranch :warn:
