I'm a huge fan of all his stuff but his albums have regressed (Mescalito > Roadhouse Sun > Junky Star). Was hoping Tomorrowland would break that trend but it doesn't appear that way from what's been played so far. I'll hold off judgement until I can listed to the full album through a few times.
I'm torn on whether I like Roadhouse Sun or Junky Star better. I know RS is the general consensus, and Country Roads is one of his best songs, but I'm not a big fan of when he goes into "rock" mode. A lot of my favorite Bingham songs are when it's just him and an acoustic. Mescalito is definitely the GOAT though.
Exactly the way I feel. SCrebel knows this, but Bingham is one of my short-list bands/musicians that I pay to see any time they're near me. The problem is after Mescalito (a masterpiece, IYAM) the rest of the catalog is spotty, at best.
I don't think that's even debatable. Won't judge the entire album based on that one song before hearing it but it certainly doesn't give me much hope for the rest being radically different.
Was so pumped the day he released the song just to be extremely disappointed. I listened to it a few times in a row trying to like it but it's just not good.
Here you go fellas: “@ThirtyTigers: Ryan Bingham's TOMORROWLAND is available to stream (yes, the whole thing) a week early courtesy of Spotify. Grab... http://t.co/XSKUcSIa”
Just finished it. Probably will not be purchasing. I HATED the first half of it (a lot of Bingham yelling to way overdone music), thought it picked up in the second half though. I'll have to listen to em all a few more times and see if it grows on me. In other news, I think I will be buying Knight's new one.
I know it's not like Mescalito and he's gradually moved into more rock and roll but I still think he's great. There's a few songs that are pretty meh, but I think it's like Junky Star but not as dark. I enjoy the new album just fine. But I personally like when he rocks out as well as his chill acoustic stuff. Just pre-ordered the vinyl to complete my Bingham vinyl collection
If you like when he rocks out then I can understand why you'd still enjoy this, but it's just not my thing. Can hardly call this one red dirt country. You say main like any of his older albums are bad... Sheeeitttt, I know they aren't lyrical or musical masterpieces, but I love his older albums where it's just him singing about drinking and Texas.
he's traded acoustic and steel guitar for electric and loud drums his lyrics and singing are still amazing though, will purchase and enjoy, like always
Doesn't get enough recognition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-D824LHti4 Damn fucking shame. I sit in bars up here in State College and I think this is the type of stuff that would succeed.
Anyone seen Granger Smith in concert? Got a chance to see him soon and wondering if would be worth it?
One of the best shows I've seen live. Dude is crazy talented and really plays to the crowd. He hung out at his merch booth after the show for as long as people stayed at the venue and talked and signed stuff the whole time.
Starting listening to the new Bingham album on my way to class. First song wasn't bad IMO but so far it's gone steadily downhill. Hopefully the rest of it is slightly better.
Anyone watch Bingham perform on the Tonight show last night? He has a chick playing bass for him now. Wish he still was with the dead horses. I've got to say, the new album is growing on me although I still don't think it's anywhere close to Mescalito or Roadhouse Sun. Need to listen a few more times before final judgement.
Definitely. Heart of Rhythm still sucks and I don't really care for Flower Bomb or Rising of the Ghetto. Outside of that I like it more than Junky Star.
