No, I don't think I used him for anything. I think Legion stayed behind to protect crew, Samara was my biotic. Legion was also my tech guy, Miranda other squad leader. Party was Garrus and grunt. Spoiler i did save the collector technology though, does that sacrifice a crew member? Not sure if it matters but only half my crew survived (like the non-playable Normandy crew). Dr. Chakwas survived but my redhead secretary died in the tube. also upset I never had consensual lesbian sex with Miranda. Also, did you guys rotate your squad mates throughout the game? Aside from non-loyalty missions I played grunt/Garrus for 95% of ME2 and Garrus/Wrex for 95% of ME1
I think you needed to leave one of Garrus and Grunt behind during the final battle. But nobody has everyone survive on their first playthrough. Miranda died on mine. Also, I'm about ten hours into my femshep playthrough on ME1. Focusing a bunch on side missions this time around.

garrus is a boss, concussive shot and his assault rifle shit plus his high shield/HP make him the best NPC by far

One of my favorite things is reading about the random planets, landing on them, and seeing what that planet looks like, how its sun looks in the sky, it's moons, etc. I'm on a gas giant's moon right now so I can see the gas giant in the sky, as well as the blue giant sun taking up half of the horizon. It's nerdy but cool
I had 3 die on my first run through the suicide mission. I think it was Jack, Miranda and Mordin that paid the price.
Did the lair of the shadow broker mission last night. Have to say that was pretty cool. Shadow Broker was an ugly motherfucker though.

You act like it is really that difficult. It really isn't that hard just takes twice as long. Both my ME and ME 2 insanity saves are over 40 hours long. Spoiler So quiet down and let the experienced gamers talk Raccoon City.
a ton of characters, and the maps are way more difficult, I was running Gold with about a 3/4 success rate when I left, now my black widow I barely does any damage on gold and the swarms are insane The bad guys are much tougher
I'm really interested to see what the extended ending is all the DLC was excellent one thing I really don't understand about the original ending is how they expected to make more games after space Jesus
