Fisk's president resigned. He was hired in Feb. of 2013. It's so sad we have two very historic HBCUs in town and they're both badly struggling Rich Riebling named Barry's chief operating officer after serving as Metro Finance Director under Dean
Plan on coming to Hawkins Field Friday at 3:30 or so as Vandy baseball will be scrimmaging for the first time this fall Jaill played Basement East last night despite not being on the bill
The Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup takes place at The Golf Club of TN on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Participating programs include Bama, Florida, UGA, UK, UT, Vandy, Clemson, Duke, GT, FSU, Louisville and UVA. Some seriously talented amateur golfers and a bunch of future PGA Tour types in the field. It's open to the public and on Friday everyone will be playing 36 holes so tons of time to get out there. I think Sunday is match play
Attorney Charles Robert Bone is Nashville Mayor-elect Megan Barry's pick to lead her mayoral transition team, which will recommend personnel decisions and identify opportunities and challenges for the new mayor's office. Bone, who endorsed Barry during the mayoral runoff election after he lost his own mayoral run in August, will lead a large 42-member transition team that includes a wide range of community stakeholders from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, former Barry campaign advisers and representatives of various Metro departments. The group is tasked with guiding the shift of power and change in administrations from outgoing Mayor Karl Dean to Barry, whose inauguration is set for Sept. 25. "I'm happy to help the new mayor," Bone told The Tennessean. "This is a conversation that she and I have had over the last couple of weeks as she began to give some thought to what her priorities would be coming into office as well as what the structure of the mayor's office ought to be. "We'll be focused on ensuring that there is a seamless transition from the current administration to hers and that there's no disruption with the business of the city," he said. "I anticipate we will kind of help identify and prioritize some of the policies and opportunities and challenges for her office both for the short term as well as the long term."
Also on the transition team is Samar Ali, the former aide to Gov. Bill Haslam made famous when Tennessee Tea Party nut jobs found out she was Muslim. Hilariously, the highly accomplished Ali's resume also now includes literally helping the Obama administration figure out how to combat terrorism
this is rather shocking The Silly Goose — chef Roderick Bailey's East Nashville restaurant, which has operated to general acclaim for the past six years — has shut down, and all indications are the closure is permanent. The restaurant, which is closed on Mondays, failed to reopen for business today, and doors are locked. Food was seen being removed from the kitchen for donation. Bailey didn't immediately respond to the Scene's requests for comment, but we'll keep you posted when we know more. Bailey, a Culinary Institute of America grad, opened The Silly Goose at 1888 Eastland Ave. in 2009, dazzling Scenerestaurant critic Carrington Fox, who wrote: Our meals at Silly Goose delivered the perfect balance of creativity and volume to leave us energized, looking forward to the next meal — and wishing it could be a meal prepared by Bailey. closed temporarily in 2011 (the restaurant's Facebook page cited an "untenable business situation"), it seemed to possess the kind of loyal customer base and recognition to weather all storms. Two years ago, Bailey won the Southeast region title in The People's Best New Chef competition, run by Food & Wine magazine. Local fans include Bites' Lesley Lassiter, who wrote last year about Silly Goose's preserved lemon and goat cheese polenta, calling it "quite simply one of the best things I’ve ever tasted." With the current boom in restaurant openings, it seems inevitable that some older restaurants will be pushed out, but it's shocking to lose one like The Silly Goose.
Don't know why Ted Rhodes gets a bad rap here. Its been improving for years, is solid now, and I haven't played a slow round in years. I haven't played a fast round at Harpeth Hills ever.
I really don't have an issue with Theodore Rhodes. I just think the harpeth hills course is more fun As far as gov't courses, Montgomery bell is my favorite. Wish it was closer
We did end up playing at Ted Rhodes; course was in decent shape and we finished 9 holes in less than 2 hours. Inclement weather though so maybe it scared some golfers. Returning in November...can't wait.
The golf cart cab and tour company Joyride is being sued by some lady for an injury she sustained after a cart flipped over onto her I really hope they have to pay such a huge settlement they go under. Driving downtown is such a pain with those things all over the place
Welp not playing either since I'm a dumbass and thought I could get a tee time for 2 early sat am before pilgrimage festival.. Looks like Shelby it is. If anyone belongs to a country club around here and needs some free labor done for compensation for a round feel free to let me know
Don't mind it at all... Hit a low bird off the teen on 11 maybe and enjoy that nice 100 yard downhill roll
I haven't golfed in nearly two years but Shelby used to have a weekday deal where you could get a cart and play 18 for $20. It was so easy to get high out there....as it is on just about any course I guess
There's a decent chance you won't be able to see shit that far back on the floor. As long as you avoid 9-10 & 15-16 in the balcony you should have a great view.
Thats what I am thinking. I have sat back there before, but do remember too much. It wasn't bad. I have never sat bal at ryman.
I actually like the Balcony more than the floor at the Ryman. Although I've never been in the first ~10 rows there. And I typically can get section 12
VU bought the Corner Pub Midtown property I've walked over to the Commons for lunch a number of times in the past few weeks and traffic is so brutal over by the construction of Aertson Midtown along 21st by Divison/Broadway. That thing is going to be so insanely huge the video below does a really good job conveying the scale of this thing
that golf tournament in Kingston Springs has 7 teams from Golfweek's top 25 participating. It's the biggest thing in college golf this weekend and maybe all month outside the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach http://golfweek.com/news/2015/sep/24/college-golf-dicks-sporting-goods-collegiate-acc-s/
Bully is one of the best bands to come out of Nashville in a while They just got a monster ovation upon completing their set here in Brooklyn. I love seeing acts from our area get the love they deserve
