Two thoughts: 1. Javy always seems to be involved in walk-off plays. 2. Who knew Avila would be the best oart of the Detroit trade?
My apologies on Wilson. He was so much better than this in Detroit. Walks were never really an issue, and the only occasional problem were HRs. No clue what's going on there. Happy Avila is doing well, though. Big fan of his.
Get those 3 runs back and what does Lackey do? Gives up a 3 run shot. 31st homer he's allowed on the year. Fuck this clown.
Good to see Zobrist driving the ball the other way here lately. Him getting hot for this stretch run would be huge. Good inning.
Seems like just 2 innings ago we were down 6-3. Now it's a laugher. I'm very grateful for the Cincinnati Reds.
Rizzo in a 3B. If dblplay1212 saw what was happening right now he'd be pissed. Hopefully KB is just out as a precaution. Glad he stayed in to run but still a bit worrisome.
I assume this was done out of necessity, not to get Matt Adams AB's for trade value. No issue with it out of necessity. Hope Bryant is ok.
It's not a conversation. He's throwing some serious gas this year but it must not be moving much because he's allowed something like 10 bombs. I wouldn't want to see him in a high leverage spot come October.
How many 4 out saves has he had this year? Seems like Joe has been really hesitant to use him outside of the 9th, which seems like the right move gives the arm issues in the past. Save the bullets for October.
Without knowing his side schedule, hasn't pitched since Sunday. But I'm not apoplectic about it or anything. Just wondering. Padres take the lead late in St Louis. Hopefully they hang on.
I think Joe is a fantastic people person and motivator... but his in game managing skills have serious issues.
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-one-stain-on-kris-bryants-record/ Fangraphs article about Bryant's struggles at being "clutch".
The Phillies have the worst record in baseball. Really need to sweep and build on our lead, especially with the Brewers playing the Dodgers and the Cardinals reeling. Be nice to be 5 games up come Sunday night.
I think if we score 17 runs a game here on out we have a better than 50/50 shot at another World Series.
Eh, I don't want to disagree with you too much on that one, because it is really bad and people do tend to forget context and view the contract as a stand-alone issue, but I feel like it's not horrific since we're doing so well with him on the team. Does that make any sense? I feel like frustration level is amplified if your team sucks, but the Cubs have been fantastic since he's joined the team so I can't bring myself to be too upset. That could change, but so far it's not painful.
It's masked by a couple factors. The team is not working on a restricted budget at the moment, and there is enough cheap young talent. But you can find good defensive outfielders with no bat at virtually no cost. Just because it hasn't crippled the team, doesn't mean there isn't lost value that in theory would make them better. For similar money that offseason you buy more pitching and hang onto prospects instead of trading for Quintana or Chapman. Now, maybe they win the world series every year and it doesn't matter.
