Strop is one of the most consistent Cubs relievers of all time, but its over. They have to get an 8th inning guy in the next 8 days.
For them it seems soon enough. I think you're dreaming if you think they're going to go out and get anything other than another bat.
Best you can expect for Morrrow is to be ready for late September into an October run. They need another arm in the pen. Carl having struggles with coming into dirty innings, Strop losing his Velo and no longer himself. Will Smith is the guy. If they are willing to give up two of there top 5 prospects to make it happen is the question. Maybe they look to make the Castallanos deal bigger and add in the closer for Detroit Club also misses Zobrist. Theo indicated they may have an answer on his return soon
Steve in the 7th Kinz in the 8th Kimbrel to close That needs to be the pen till Strop figures it out. Not really to give up on him but put him in a lesser role till it gets figured out Wick looked good in the 7th. Started to overthrow in the 8th.
Of course that cock sucker hits into a double play. Not only does he admit to not knowing the signs he attempts to blame the lack of playing time. I think Joe is over it. Not really protecting him in the media any more. Putting all the issues on Russell’s shoulders. Just cut him already. Or trade him. Or send him to the minors.
I really have no idea what Theo and Hoyer are doing with this roster. The bottom of this roster is so bad and easily replaceable and yet they don't.
Since people love to shit on Kris Bryant and his lack of success with RISP... I would like to point out he's hitting .500 with RISP since his move to the 3rd spot in the lineup on July 4th.
Addison optioned to AAA and Wilson activated. Lester sick so Chatwood filling in tonight. Hopefully he has a strong start and we can find a taker at the deadline
He has been amazing lately and it’s been sorely needed especially with willson absent. I don’t understand the angst though. He has been really poor relative to his incredible talent throughout his career in those moments. If expecting our superstars to come up big when it counts the most is problematic...then,okay?
Its clear he's struggled. I think especially with Kris we tend to focus on his few negatives and its constant. The dude might be the best Cubs hitter in team history and we have people that legit think he's expendable and should be traded because he's not clutch. Not saying you fall in that group. I just find it frustrating and wanted to point out he may be breaking out of whatever the funk was.
He is fantastic. Between and outside the lines. There are very few superstars who wouldn’t grumble about being shifted all over the diamond and up/down the lineup. He doesn’t. I haven’t heard many people suggest he be dealt or anything similar but I’ll take your word for it. I have certainly griped about his numbers in higher leverage spots. Initially think it was chalked up to noise and randomness especially given his early playoff stats, but it’s been on-going. Hopefully this signals his emergence as a consistently reliable high leverage performer
Maddon loves running guys out there who have no business being out there. Why is Brach still on this roster?
That's twice in a short span where he made a decision where everyone knew it was a bad idea (CJ was the other one) and it turned out horribly
Two nights of horrible pen management for Joe. This entire road trip he’s made stupid moves. Started in San Fran with the super early pull of our starting pitcher in the 4th inning
I'm too excited about adding Tony Kemp. He's basically a marginally more successful Arismendy Alcantara.
I about ready for this season to be over unless they really turn it around and get some consistency going.
