It gives us the rotation we need to compete for another title for the next couple years. It's going to hurt in 2022 and 2023 when he's likely worn down some.
He's an upgrade over Jake. He's projected to have a better season than Jake is this year. 126/6 is a good deal imho... Curious where and what Jake lands.
I’m happy with it. Not huge on the sixth year but we probably don’t land him without it. Always good to add another ace to the rotation.
Lester, Hendricks, Quintana, Darvish, and Chatwood? That's a championship-caliber rotation. Bullpen isn't bad at all either with Montgomery getting to move back there.
6th year takes his AAV from 25 to 21m. It keeps Cubs under tax this year. It’s not something to be unhappy about imho
Idk, analysts keep calling him a 6 inning pitcher and didn’t exactly show up on a big stage... objectively are the numbers “fair”? Or are we overpaying? Feels like a lateral move Arietta to Darvish. If it’s a “deal” I’d feel better about it.
He's better than Arietta at this point in their respective careers. The numbers are lower than expected at the beginning of free agency. He pitched well until he was tipping his pitches in the WS.
Contreras is just destroying baseballs and flipping the fuck out of bats. Already in mid season form.
Seems like the team is rejuvenated and has hat swagger back like yeah, we are good and we are here to win it all.
Hot take: Ian Happ will be an all star caliber player this year Really think the kid is about to take off.
He’s had a hell of a spring after a great rookie campaign. I’m expecting big things as well. Love him in the lead off spot.
It about winning another World Series. Not sure our pen is strong enough/trusted enough to get us to that point. But we shall see. I could see another NLCS appearance for sue
Baseball eve. Wish I would’ve taken tomorrow off. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch the first 5-6 innings at least.
Predictions for this year? I think we get back to the World Series but fall to the Astros. Schwarber has a huge bounce back year but Happ isn't nearly as good as he's been in spring training.
I don't see Astros making the WS again. I think they'll have a year like the Cubs did last year and end up losing in the ALCS. I'm thinking Cubs over Indians or Yankees.
If you're mattingly you gotta think about getting Urena out of this game at this point. 3 HBP, 2 walks, a HR, and he almost hit Schwarber too.
Little worried about Javy. Couldn't tell if it hit his hand dead on or if it caught some of the knob.
Happ only on pace for 360+ homers now. Hopefully Theo is working the phones trying to get max value for him while he's hot.
Yeah the errors aren't ideal but Lester is not looking great. They're getting lots of solid contact off him.
