Probably because we've done fucking nothing this offseason.

Apparently they "feel great about who we have". Sounds like they're counting on bounce-back seasons from basically everyone.

 

The off-season has become excruciatingly boring in general.

 

Rosenthal wrote a few weeks back that they need to clear money even to sign a middling reliever.

It really is an amazing story. Dude is throwing 96 consistently and has hit 99 on occasion.... oh he's a lefty. Him feeling like he owed the Cubs/Fans more for the support is beyond awesome. I wish him nothing but the best.

EDIT: Just noticed it's not a club option in 2024, less exciting but still like it.

I'm confused though, because it's being reported a 55.5m deal with a 1.5m buyout in 2024, which would indicate a club option. We'll see.

Yeah but the arb year isn't part of the extension.

The extension is 4 years 55.5m with escalators....and apparently a vesting option 5th year.

 

TheAthletic did an article polling MLB players about a variety of topics. This answer was amusing for what city do you least like going on a road trip to.

Hopefully this is one of many to be announced... Theo and Hoyer hinted at being close with a few players on extension and specifically Bryant. You are starting to see the trend go the other way and young players signing long extensions with clubs again. Hope the Cubs can take advantage of this with Baez, Bryant, Wilson and some others.

 

I think players see a work stoppage coming in a few years and want to get cash now.

For years the Cubs were at the top of this poll because the visitors club house was such a shit show.
