I agree, solitary is unfair. I’m more in favor forcing them run down the road unarmed while the victim’s family hunt them down with firearms.
I’ll say this if you’re arguing that no one deserves life without parole then I’ll disagree. Some people forfeit the right to be free by their actions. I’m talking about the conditions in prison and the purpose of prison for the vast majority of people incarcerated. If a tiny minority benefit from better more humane conditions then that is small price to pay for society as a whole.
I agree with what you are saying, but the more humane treatment seem to only be extended to people like the McMichaels, the Capitol rioters, that benefit is not extended to MOC, the optics of that is what’s pissing people off.
i get it and I think we believe the same. Yours is an argument at the actual process mine is more theoretical. I want X to happen for a reason but you see that X is only brought up when white people are involved.
Definitely not saying that. My philosophy is basically -prison should be limited to violent criminals -the death penalty should be abolished -solitary is inhumane and should be abolished. -for profit prisons shouldn’t exist Sure, that would mean these horrible people have it a little better but that philosophy helps far more POC than it does white dudes
I mostly agree. “Violent” would be difficult to define also I would have to think about it but I might think some non-violent offenses deserve jail time. Also are we talking strictly prison or jail too. I’ll also add that bail should be abolished.
This may have a good answer. I just skimmed it so far. https://nccriminallaw.sog.unc.edu/f...raction-concurrent-and-consecutive-sentences/
Absolutely wild these dudes would be free if not for that one dumbass just handing over the video of them committing cold blooded murder
That’s what I was wondering. I would think state still since if you’re convicted of murder and got the death penalty you’d be in state prison even if you got a federal hate crime charge for a life sentence. I have no idea though. I guess regardless they’ll die in prison either way.
How long were they free before even being arrested even after the video came out? It’s insane that without them recording it they wouldn’t have faced any consequences because the “he’s coming right for us!” defense
U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood denied a request by 36-year-old Travis McMichael to serve his hate-crime sentence first, in federal prison, which would likely mean he would avoid serving a life term in state prison on the murder charges. Amy Lee Copeland, McMichael’s attorney, said in court Monday that her client has received hundreds of threats and faces imminent harm if he’s sent to Georgia state prison — a system Copeland noted is under federal investigation for safety concerns. “I’m concerned that my client faces an effective back-door death penalty,” Copeland said. She added, “I understand the rich irony, judge, of expressing that my client will face vigilante justice himself.” McMichael declined to speak in court Monday. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...08/ahmaud-arbery-federal-hate-crime-sentence/
Not that long. The linger delay was the first prosecutor not bringing charges. Its been a while so don't remember the exact timeline so I may be off
Ok so he’s going to state prison to serve his life sentence for murder and the federal hate crime charge would just run concurrent or after his murder charge in state prison. Fuck ‘em. I don’t think they just up and kill any of them.
