Heard Steve H mention on the fan this morning that 1/3 of our running plays resulting in negative yards or no gain. That shouldn’t happen here. God damnit Stud.

listening to Russillo's pod this AM with Klatt. Just roasting the OSU offensive line getting pushed around Indiana.
Deservedly so. The Podcast guys had a similar take. After rewatching the game and taking a few days to think about it, OL is far and away more concerning than QB. Luckily, they have a few games to figure it out before it really matters.
Having a few at the airport. Glad the octoberfest beers are back. Pretty excited to see Pearl Jam today and Thursday.
I only watched live, but did the OL get pushed around, or was it more that they allowed free rushers. Seemed like the same two guys were always in the backfield untouched.
More often than not, it felt like IU had an extra guy get through a gap and make a play in our backfield. There were a handful of occasions where our OL missed assignments or just got blown off the ball entirely. That can't happen against an opponent like Indiana.
Ideally, none of our starters are even playing after the first series of the third quarter. Still have flashbacks of Chris Wells going down with injury against Youngstown State in 2008.
The OL was decent in pass protection, and McCord avoided two sacks that I remember. They were bad at run blocking. No way to sugar coat that. Over 1/3 of our rushing yards came on our first series and they were crap the rest of the day. We failed 8/10 on conversions of 3rd and 5 or less.
I put some of that on the play calling. We are so fucking predictable in short yardage. They had 2nd and 3rd level guys selling out in those gaps. It was impossible to get a helmet on them.
Glad to see Day making it pretty clear the OL play was unacceptable...no Silver Bullet of the Day type awards here....
I meant to say “failed” 8/10, and edited, but you got it. I would be less concerned if this wasn’t the same short yardage problem we had all of last year.
Correct. It's very concerning becaue that was one of our biggest issues last year and it's like the OSU coaching staff didn't even realize it this offseason and they're sticking to the same shit that did not work last year.
if Ohio State is just as sloppy as they were in week 1, WKU will hang around 2 touchdowns imhv. they are a pretty solid program
If this is in fact true, its pretty astonishing to think about. We played nearly perfect when it came to assignment football on defense and it especially showed up in the option game. If nothing else, that is a major take away from the first game. I am growing more and more excited about the defense and I think it will continue to impress.
From Ohio State’s press release today: https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/news/...home-schedule-saturday-vs-youngstown-state-23 FCS teams went 0-42 against FBS schools on Week One. YSU is coached by Doug Phillips, who was a grad assistant under Tressel at YSU and an assistant under Fickell at Cincinnati. Marcus Hooker is a Sixth Year senior safety at YSU. He started 5 games for YSU in 2022, which is only one less than he started for OSU in 2020.
We dropped two spots in the AP this week, to 5. Alabama and FSU jumped us. Our opponents are: 2 Michigan same 7 Penn State same 10 Notre Dame up 3 spots 19 Wisconsin same
It’s still dumbfounds me that Marcus Hooker has started one more game at YSU than he did at Ohio State. Our secondary was historically bad in 2020 and 2021.
He had that cursed deal with Raising Cane's. Not sure if it was the first of any OSU player but he was one of like three players nationally to get that deal before the 2021 season. Sevyn Banks (wasn't good - transferred to LSU), Spencer Rattler (was replaced by Caleb Williams as the starter at OU a few weeks into that season - transferred to South Carolina), and Myles Brennan (season ending injury in fall camp at LSU - never played again).
