I have secured tickets to Autzen Stadium when God's College Football team takes on the Ducks October 12th. AMA
Friday Survey, all Ohio State, we start practice next week: 1. Name one practice report theme you want to read in the next three weeks that will make you believe we are ready. 2. Name one report theme that will make you believe we are not. 3. Which OSU beat writer will act the weirdest as a press corp attendee at camp hotel check in? 4. In honor of Corch getting Oregon tickets, what’s the best away game you have attended? 5. Archie Griffin will be the 12th non-band member to dot the I on Script Ohio in the Akron opener. Who should be next? Past non-band I-dotters are: 1971 Novice Fawcett 1978 Bob Hope 1983 Woody Hayes 1985 Robert Ries (former ticket director) 1990 Buster Douglas 1995 Gordon Gee 2006 Jack Nickalaus 2009 John and Annie Glenn 2011 Lex Wexner 2016 Earle Bruce 2024 Archie Griffin
1. Name one practice report theme you want to read in the next three weeks that will make you believe we are ready. I want to hear that the OL is handling itself against our DL, because I have no concerns about our DL. 2. Name one report theme that will make you believe we are not. Will Howard is not a clear cut starter, or our players being noncommittal when asked about Howard. I don’t feel like he had a great Spring. 3. Which OSU beat writer will act the weirdest as a press corp attendee at camp hotel check in? Kevin Noon, using his 350 pound frame to box out Caroline Rice from taking any photos. 4. In honor of Corch getting Oregon tickets, what’s the best away game you have attended? 2005 Michigan was my favorite, because of the comeback. 5. Archie Griffin will be the 12th non-band member to dot the I on Script Ohio in the Akron opener. Who should be next? Jim Tressel
1) OL is kicking ass 2) OL struggling, or 2nd team OL is garbage 3) Grimace 4) 2002 Wisconsin. Flew on the team plane, attended training table dinner and stayed in team hotel, sat with Donnie Nickey’s family and enjoyed watching us squeak out a close one thanks to Chris Gamble’s breakout performance at CB 5) Mia Khalifa
1) Chip has complete control of the offense and it looks elite 2) The D line is destroying the OL. 3) I honestly don’t know them all well enough to guess. 4) Never been to an away game and unlikely I ever will. I’m the type that does not enjoy games in person in any way. 5) Tressel seems like the best of the options that I know.
Wisconsin 2002 might have the most significant punt in Ohio State history. We went up 19-14 with a TD on our first drive of the fourth quarter. Wisconsin responded by driving the length of the field, only to be intercepted by Gamble in the end zone. We went three and out from our own 20, hanging on for dear life, and Andy Groom uncorks a 74 yard punt. Wisconsin goes three and out, then we kill the clock for victory. Groom’s second half punts that day were a 50 yarder, a 35 yarder that pinned at the 1, and the 74 yarder. He also had 44, 45, and 53 in the first half.
I’m very interested to see how much control Chip Kelly will have. I feel like this either is going to be a brilliant success or failure, with no in between.
I don’t see a scenario where it’s a failure. Chip can run the offense Sunday to Saturday and give Day the space to handle everything else that needs handled. What could you see a failure looking like?
1. Will Howard is taking claim to the job early 2. The DL starters are making it hard for the offense to practice 3. Tim May, every time 4. 22 Penn State. Watching CJ and JT take over in the second half and quiet the crowd was awesome 5. Jim Tressel
1. The OL looking competent. The obvious answer is Will Howard, but if the OL looks like as bad as it did at times last season that’s kind of a moot point. 2. The OL looking bad. I truly believe Ohio State’s shot at the NC hinges on OL play. 3. Noon 4. I’ve never been to an Ohio State game not at the Horseshoe. 5. Tress
1. OL holding up well against our DL. Will Howard named the starter early. 2. The DL wrecking the offense and causing us to go easy in practice so the offense can get their reps. QB battle going into mid-late August. 3. Kevin Noon. He looks like Jabba The Hut and it scares me. 4. 2006 at Texas. 5. My best friend (Tressel) and then Urban.
1. Name one practice report theme you want to read in the next three weeks that will make you believe we are ready. Will Howard has separated himself from DB and is the guy. 2. Name one report theme that will make you believe we are not. Alien defense. 3. Which OSU beat writer will act the weirdest as a press corp attendee at camp hotel check in? Kevin Noon. Side note, you know that Nikon is absolutely covered with grease. 4. In honor of Corch getting Oregon tickets, what’s the best away game you have attended? 2002 Illinois. OSU was undefeated and Illinois was maybe 3-8 or something like that. It was the week before the Michigan game and absolutely freezing outside, which ended up being an equalizer. I have difficulty explaining how close this game was. In a season full of close games, this may have been the closest. We ended up winning in overtime after two consecutive TDs by Illinois were ruled out of bounds, the second of which was maybe a bad call. Illinois missed a late-in-regulation 60 yard field goal by a couple feet. Just an insane game which Michael Jenkins ended up carrying in the 2nd half after Krenzel couldn't complete a pass in the first half. I was in the Illinois student section as a HS junior and was the only person in sight rooting for Ohio State. I jumped up in celebration after the last play of the game, and someone threw a water bottle at the back of my head. A frozen water bottle. 5. Archie Griffin will be the 12th non-band member to dot the I on Script Ohio in the Akron opener. Who should be next? Big Dick Bob Landers
Road games are awesome. Nebraska has been my favorite so far. I have a feeling Oregon will be a good time but I'm expecting their fans to be pretty bad.
2002 Illinois was the first overtime game in Ohio State history. My memory from that day is Dustin Fox getting absolutely abused.
1.) OL doing well against DL 2.) Grumblings about passing offense 3.) Pelican will streak it while wearing a Kevin Noon mask over his face 4.) Holy Buckeye. 2005 UM almost the answer, but that Holy Buckeye moment was special 5.) Tress
1) Good OL reports 2) DL dominating reports 3) Noon? 4) Only been to Rutgers the first trip there so that 5) Tressel
He made some really good plays from my memory, including stopping a game-tying TD in overtime by pushing the Illini WR out of bounds while in mid-air so he couldn't land with a foot in the endzone.
I am going from memory, but I thought Gamble shut down the Illinois WR1 only to have WR2 go off on Fox.
There is a decent chance we play a ranked team four games in a row from 10/5 until 11/2 when the first CFP poll comes out. Iowa—at Oregon—Nebraska—at Penn State Nebraska has a great schedule if they can finally pull it together.
1. Jalen is working the middle of the field. 2. Constant rotation in the secondary. 3. I honestly don’t even know who our beat writers are these days other than Kennington Smith on The Athletic who I really like. It’ll be interesting to see how DeBoer handles things after two decades of Saban more or less controlling the press. 4. 2008 UGA, 2008 LSU, 2009 Iron Bowl, 2015 UGA (even though I got kicked out of the game) were all a blast. 5. Mike Doss because he’s imo the baddest dude to wear scarlet and grey in our era.
have no data to support this, but it's hard to imagine that there was a better kicker/punter duo than nugent and groom in the bcs/playoff era
It’s not anything exciting. Basically got canned by a complete wanker father/son duo in front of me who couldn’t handle the ass whipping we were handing out coupled with how much Bama I’ve got in me. Cops came, said they’d received a complaint, smelled alcohol on me, and told me it was time to go. I told them I was of legal drinking age and had only been drinking pregame (this was in the first half) and they said yadda yadda it doesn’t matter you can either follow us out or we’ll forcibly take you out of the stadium and to Athens-Clarke County jail on some trumped up bullshit. I can’t recall if I had anything illegal on my person at the time, but there was certainly stuff in me and I had no desire to ride things out that way. In all honesty, I didn’t even behave bad. Certainly cussed but it was all positive energy directed toward the Tide. Wasn’t in anyone’s face or rubbing things in, just total small dick beta energy from that dude. Even had UGA fans around who I hadn’t interacted with or solicited backup from vouch for me that I hadn’t done anything to deserve removal but c’est la vie. I got my parting words in and then left the stadium to walk around in a literal hurricane since all the bars were at capacity and the rest of my crew at the game. Made some random friends, met back up with my group after the game, and partied all night in a game day condo. So all in all, still a great weekend.
I haven't had a truly bad experience for a road game yet. Penn State fans weren't as bad as I thought they were gonna be but being at noon probably helped. I did almost get into it with some freshmen on the walk across campus to the bars after the game who wouldn't stop chirping one of my friends I went with. Purdue fans sucked. Nebraska fans are great.
What area of the stadium (better if you can throw out section and roughly what row you think) would be best for taking a couple older ladies to an OSU game where they’ll enjoy the game but really are there to see the halftime show? My brother is taking his wife’s stepmom and her friend when they’re in from out of town for the WMU night game I said midfield probably A deck higher up or lower C deck
