Think Teague would be a good 2nd/3rd option once teams are beat down. He is not starting caliber for a school like OSU.
I hope there's real open competition at every position next year and lots of young guys get to play. The majority of the upperclassmen listed here aren't championship caliber talent imo. OL should be good again and the wr's will be great, but rb is a huge question mark and that defense looks no bueno.
If Treveyon is as good as he appears, and I think he is, then I am not worried about the RB position. Dobbins showed that a freshman RB can come in and play at a high level.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc6on...es-assistant-coaches-salaries-for-2020-season According to this link, Alford, Mattison, and Washington's contracts end at the end of the month.
Pretty happy Najee didn't end up at Michigan, incredible numbers this season and was great last night
Mattison needs to go. Not that he isn't probably a better tactical mind than Coombs, but he's ancient and adds nothing as a recruiter. Bring in someone to help Coombs who is capable of calling plays if/when the shit hits the fan defensively next season. The lack of talent returning in the secondary is alarming, particularly at corner. Other than Banks, there isn't a single guy I would be comfortable playing in a big game. Williamson isn't good enough. Cam Brown is coming off a bad injury and was already iffy. Cavazos and Watts are both good athletes who may or may not be able to play football. There is no reason why Jordan Hancock and JK Johnson shouldn't both be in the rotation. Safeties should be ok. Ransom flashed a bit, and Proctor at least occasionally makes plays. Lots of linebacker options, but we have no idea if any of them are good; Really hope we can add the USC kid. Mitchell doesn't appear to be athletic enough to start, but between Gant, Simon, and Young, hopefully two of them can step up. Too bad Pope seems to be gone...really thought he'd be a difference maker. I'm assuming Haskell and Togiai are both gone, but hopefully Tyreke comes back since he really only had 1 game of quality tape to put out this year. Harrison really needs to step it up; a player that talented having zero sacks in 7 games is unacceptable. JJB and Friday should provide good depth, but Sawyer and JTT (hopefully) should both be in the rotation. Mike Hall for that matter, as well. Looking awfully thin at DT. Offense should be fine. Ruckert will hopefully be back, but I'd understand if he doesn't think he'll be featured any more prominently in the passing game next year. Stroud should be good with the receivers we bring back. Starting OL should be solid, but depth is a little concerning, particularly at tackle. RB rotation needs to be Miyan and Henderson. Teague is a nice kid and a serviceable back, but he's just not talented enough to be the featured runner on a playoff team. 2021 will be a good barometer for Ryan Day as a head coach. It'll be the least talented team he's had, and the first time he'll be breaking in a quarterback he hand picked out of high school. Could see it being an 2020 Oklahoma type season, or worst case, if we don't find a QB, a 2020 LSU season. Don't think the latter is very likely, and the B1G is so bad that we may still be able to out-talent everyone if we don't slip up against a random West team. Don't think we're really a legitimate Championship caliber team, but should be a fun season.
Najee Harris and DeVonta Smith are both likable. There aren't any players on that Bama team that I dislike.
ya, Teague showed his worth in the RZ last night. Just need the explosive back to get the majority of the snaps.
Agree 100% DeVonta talking about never let someone tell you that you are too small to be great was awesome
Their culture seems very similar to ours in that regard. I'm sure they have a random knucklehead like Demario too, but overall mainly good kids.
In hindsight, our 2018 class has had some big misses and 2019 was not great to begin. Taron Vincent and Tyreke Johnson were five stars. Gill and Terejada were top 50. There is a lot of dead weight we brought on through the 100-300 range.
It's kinda ridiculous how little time they get to make that decision when the draft isn't for several months.
One of the podcasts The 19 class is going to kill us the next two years. Thankfully the top 4 guys are all contributors (Harrison, Wilson, Miller, Williams) but after that it's bleak. Hickman showed a little this year before getting hurt. Dawand Jones has played the most of everyone else, and he was the worst recruit in the class. It's a small class with not many contributors. Day is going to need to hit the transfer portal hard to make up for it because they're not going to provide many starters as Juniors and Seniors. That and/or he'll just have to play a lot of young guys next year and process most of the non contributors.
Not reading anything from the past 14 hours. That Alabama team was the best football team I've watched Ohio State play against in my 20-ish years of being a fan. They had far superior talent, their coaches schemed our dicks off, and their players executed at an elite level. Having Sermon, Smith, and Togiai would've been nice, but we were not beating that team last night either way. Every position in the secondary should be up for grabs next year. That passing defense was embarrassing all season.
Wasn't sure if i should share that, ha. Seems like a good kid and teammate, but obviously his play and lack of production has been a disappointment
In all of these forecasts for next year, no one has mentioned Steele Chambers at RB? Why is he such an afterthought?
Any word on the extent of Fields injury? He was obviously playing through serious pain. Absolute warrior.
I think Day and Fields limited their excuse making in the postgame, but both were quoted as saying "he wasn't 100 percent." I am sure things will come out later, but neither wanted to lay it out there last night.
I think Miyan should absolutely get a shot over Teague. It's hard for freshman to get on the field in a normal year, let alone this year. When he did he was very good.
We finished AP No. 2. That’s the 4th top 5 finish in a row and the 16th in the last 25 seasons. 18/25 in the top 10 and 21/25 ranked.
lol yeah I know....and that's precisely why none of us are really expecting much from them. I actually like Miyan but can't really see him being much more than a guy who spells Henderson.
Miyan had 10 carries all season and Crowley tore everything in his knee last season, not sure how you can make that assumption. Did Crowley even play before yesterday? And Miyan looked like he belonged against Clemson. I'd argue that cutback and truckstick run he had was more impressive than anything Teague did this season
The fact that Crowley, not having a carry all season, got in before Chambers tells me all I need to know about him. He's not at the level we need, so he should either play linebacker or transfer. Henderson should be given every opportunity to be the featured back next year. The rest of these guys are medium talents at best
Fields, Olave, and Davis should go pro. Myers, Tyreke, and Togiai should be on the fence as I think they could improve their value. Wade is gone and definitely shouldn't declare but if he plays like he did this season good riddance. Ruckert is good enough to go but doesn't have the stats to go high. No idea what he'll do.
Regarding Ruckert, not sure his production matters. He showed enough that I think NFL scouts are drooling over his measurables. He flashed enough to become a pretty top-tier TE prospect.
I agree I'm just not sure that gets him into the top two rounds. If Day convinces him to stay and focuses on making him a bigger part of the offense for a whole year, he's good enough to be a mid to late first round pick
I just hope Teague doesn’t become the tuf borland of the offense. He’s too limited to be getting regular playing time against equal competition. Don’t blame the coaches for seeing what they had in him this season tho, especially with sermon struggling most of the year
Tyreke going pro would be pretty laughable. Guy's played one good game in three years. Playing so few games this year probably helps with having an excuse for his pedestrian stats. Coming back and actually playing well for an entire season, not to mention getting another year of coaching from LJ, will make him a lot of money. Would also help if Harrison started giving a shit about football. He looked like he didn't lift a weight or practice his pass rushing moves at all this past year. Sawyer could walk in and potentially be our best DE on day 1. Can't think of a time where we had as little talent at DE as this season.
